I am wondering if anyone has ever come across the LOCKAMY name in their research. My LOCKAMY's come from the Pitt County area, but have found them occasionally in Cumberland, and understand they may have started out in Sampson.

My earliest documented ancestor is Reason Lockamy who was born in NC circa 1800 and died before the 1860 census. He is believed to have been born in Pitt Co. but that has not been documented or verified. There is a Reason Lockamy on the 1840 Census in Sampson County, but no way to document if it is the correct person, since there was apparently at least 2 in the area with the same name.

Any tips or help in breaking through this BRICK WALL would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cheryl, There is a Reason Lockamy who has an estate record in Sampson County, NC for the year 1870 at the NC State Archives. This does not mean he died in 1870, that's just when his estate may have been settled. I have lots of information on Lockamy families of Cumberland and Sampson County, NC. Feel free to send me a message.

Thanks. Having a difficult time locating this information that you provided. I will keep trying. Reason married Jane Tew and his son Lovett James is my direct ancestor. Lovett was born circa 1834 in Sampson and served in the Civil War. He died of his wounds on May 7 1864 at Spotsylvania Courthouse. Lovett married Martha J. (Patsey) Evans.

For over 10 years I've been trying to locate Reason's parentage and/or siblings. He seems to be the brick wall of this branch of the LOCKAMY family.

Thanks,
Cheryl
