England Jurisdiction 1851 - Contiguous Parishes Online
Brilliant finding aid which not only allows you to view contiguous parishes it also shows county boundaries, civil reigstration districts, poor law union, hundreds, for any parish in England in 1851. Experience has taught me always look in surrounding parishes to where I believe my ancestors lived as they moved more than we give them credit for.

Was your ancestor a Publican?
This site is invaluable for finding out whether they ran a Pub.

Thanks Rick for pointing me in the direction of the Norfolk Parish Registers pilot - have already found some entries and am sure will find more! A wonderful resource.

This is indeed a wonderful resource for those with Norfolk ancestors - I have already found one baptism, two marriages and four burials since it came online at the weekend.

My problem brickwall is William who appears to have died between the 1841 and 1851 census and therefore I have no place of birth for him where I can start looking - I have been trying to find this family for over twenty years.....

Margaret: go to familysearch.org and then click on the search tab then select record search pilot when the new window comes up click on browse our record collection when the map comes up click on Europe then a list will come up and you will see a red star next to Norfolk Church of England Parish Registers click on it and a long list of registers will come up that you can browse. These are not indexed but they are from the parish registers and you can browse the images when you find one you want just download it to your computer for your records. I seen a George Hall on those registers and also Jonathan's record but note his surname is Hall not Halls
Hope this helps as its well worth taking a good look at those records. You will even save 7 pounds on his marriage certificate as its the same record done at the church.

Thanks Rick

No nothing on the Norfolk registers for baptism or marriage (have spent two days looking!) in West Dereham or Wretton - I believe William died before 1851 so no luck in looking at the census either. Jonathan had sisters Sarah and Jane to my knowledge, but there may have been others.

I live in hope.....

Have you by chance managed to get his baptism record and marriage record from the West Dereham parish registers now online at famillysearch.org pilot search. I had a quick look but did not find a marriage for the parents as yet but did find another sibling of Johnathan's so may be well worth your while having a look on that site and you can download the images for your tree.

I am looking for information on the HALLS family from West Dereham.

Jonathan HALLS married Mary Ann NORMAN in 1848, they were both from West Dereham. Mary Ann was the daughter of James NORMAn and Sarah HOWARD. Jonathan HALLS was the son of William HALLS and his wife Jane.

Cannot find the marriage of William HALLS to Jane (surnames not known), nor where either of them were born / baptise although Jane gives her place of birth as Wretton (1851 census).

Hi Everyone

I have just joined the group and my interests are ABREY, OSBO(U)RN(E),
WRE(A)THAM in the East Harling area and MAY(E)S in Shimpling (in Norfolk - I know there is a Shimpling in Suffolk too!).

I am searching for any information on William Lynn born abt 1790. He married Mary Ann Armager born 1809, but I would like to know if he was married previous to her. Reason for that is that she would have been too young to have had the first child of William Lynn. How would I find this out? They left Norfolk for Illinois. William I believe left in 1842 and Mary Ann and all the children except David left in 1844.

Their children weree:

David born abt 1823 died Illinois

Rebecca born abt 1823 (belive them to be twins) died Illinois

Hannah, born abt 1828 died Illinois

John born Oct 1835 died Illinois

George born 14 Mar 1837 died Illinois

William born 26 Dec 1838 in Walsoken died Illinois

Sarah Ann born abt 1839 died 31 Dec 1841 in West Walton

James born 1842 (Not sure if this James belongs to this family but I think he does. He was born in West Walton, baptized at St. Mary Parish Church) He would have died very young.

There were two more children born in Illinois James in 1846 and Ellen in 1850

Any help in finding anything on this family is greatly appreciated.

Any help
