I meant unintentional variant spellings :-) I've seen them with even the commonest names, ones I never would have thought were ever misspelled before I began my research....

Hi thanks for responding Liz, sorry not the right one. As typical of all the French Canadians they had three names. His birth certificate says Arthur Norbert Evariste Boudreau. No variant spelling. From the time he immigrated to New Bedford he was known as Norbert A. E. Boudreau. The church name is correct but is in Attleborough, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Thanks for your efforts.

No other searches for the same spelling have turned anything up. I haven't been able to find any naturalization databases on the site (I've also never turned up naturalization papers in past searches), though perhaps I am somehow missing them. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

[I know that Norbert first married before the date my paste, but remarriages were even more common then than they are now...]

Hi Jen,
Without going into any variation about alternate spellings, first name as initial, etc this is all I've turned up in a search:

Last Name First Name Date of Event Type Church Repertoire No. Org. Seq.
BOUDREAU Jean Norbert 17-Sep-1928 Marriage St. Joseph, Fitchburg MA RP022 More

Is this the correct Bourdreau?

I did a category search first. I will try a region search next and see if that makes any difference in results.

Hello,

Am wondering if anyone has experience in trying to obtain a copy of Naturalization records from Massachusetts. My grandfather immigrated from Canada in 1896 to New Bedford, Massachsuetts. I tried contacting the Waltham, Massachusetts archives. They told me they have nothing and recommended I contact the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Archives in Boston to locate the information.

They records are also available on Massachusetts paid sites. Is anyone a member and willing to do a look-up on the NEHGS. I see they have naturalization records available also.
In case, someone is so kind, I am posting information here:

Norbert A.E. Boudreau Fa: Jude Boudreau
b. June 26, 1880 Mo.Obeline Gauvin
Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada

Immigrated to New Bedford, Massachusetts
in 1896 according to 1900 census of New Bedford.
In the 1900 census he would have been ineligible for naturalization as had only been here three years.

1910 Census Attleborough, Bristol County, Ma
Norbert A E Boudreau living in Attlebourough with his wife Beatrice Boudreau.

Next to Norbert's Immigration date says NA for naturalized. So expect naturalization was between 1900-1910.

The Waltham archives informed me that any wife would automatically be naturalized when the husband is until 1920.

If anyone knows if a fee is required to obtain a copy from the Massachusetts Archives itself I would appreciate your knowledge of the same as my last effort will be to write to the Massachusetts Judicial Archives for a copy and have not been able to find if a fee is required.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Jen
