Hi Pam:

Please also see my posting just earlier about Mabel (Miller) (Mapps) Lott.

Believe I have located the 1930 Census of Florence (Miller) Crawford, the dau. of Henri (Wells) Miller. Florence was enumerated at Pemiscot County, Missouri, in Holland. Florence’s husband’s name is Thomas Crawford. He is ae 35, b. AR/KY/KY; Florence is ae 28, b. AK/IL/TN. They have been married about 8 years. Children’s names are: George, ae 8, Floyd, ae 7, Irene, ae 6, Minnie B., ae 3, and Bernice, ae 1. The son George was born Arkansas; all the other children were born at Missouri.

Thomas Crawford is a self-employed cotton farmer; appears he rents his farm.

Living in the home with Thomas and Florence is her brother George Miller. He is ae 17, single, b. AR/IL/TN. George is a cotton farmer.

P.S. Isn’t Holland, Missouri the same place Florence’s sister Mabel married Alfie Lott in 1934?

Hello Genej, Yes this is Florence and her husband. As far as I know she was born in AR. I do not have much on her, nor her brother George. I am in contact with Henris g-granddaughter and one of Mae bells. We are all just as stumbed as to where she could have been 1880-1926 and why she wasn't listed on any of the census. ( Henri) that is. I know that she was living with her yougest daughter Rose and husband Fred Roberts when she died ?.( 1926 AR ) Fred signed her death certificate. I think I had said that in an earlier post.
But, some of the relatives just didn't know anything and some knew stuff and wouldn't say anything. And some just plain would not talk about it . so.... Here we are.
Anyway, I have a lot of information to look over and talk to the g-granddaughters about and see just what all we do have now, with yours and Kates help. Once more Thank you. Pam
Please also see the two postings just earlier about Mabel (Miller) (Mapps) Lott, Florence (Miller) Crawford and George Miller.

Believe I have located John Henry Miller in the census of 1930. He is enumerated as John Miller at Bowen Twp., Mississippi County, Arkansas (dwelling 243, family 245), ae 26, b. AR/USA/AR; he is a self-employed cotton farmer; wife is Hermie; ae 23, b. AR/USA/USA. There are two daughters in the household, Christine, ae 3+, and ?Justine, ae 1+.

This is the same township where Kate earlier found Fred and Rose (Miller) Roberts with their children. Rose’s siblings, Viola and Will were living with them. Fred and Rose (Miller) Roberts were at dwelling 226, family 226.

I’ve uploaded both of those census images.

I've been trying to set up a little 1920-ish timeline about Henri's family. So many of the children married at that time, I thought that if we used the census and the births of a first child we could develop a good estimate of when those marriage occurred. If we find the marriages, we'll surely find Henri!

Also, the son in law Walter Mapps registered for the draft, and I think that Thomas Crawford served in the WWI ... was hoping we could use those documents to place those men in the same period. I intended to include those items in the timeline, too.

Great idea, huh. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it all done, yet. In the process, though, I did find Walter Mapps' draft registraton ... AND, we can finally check of _one_ of these families in the 1920 census as the Mapps' have been mapped!!! [You can check me, but believe the surname was indexed as Mapp.]

Didn't want to sign off without uploading those two items.

.... I forgot to add this to the attachment I sent to you on Wells, Henrietta. She is listed on the Arkansas Death Record Index, 1924-1933, page 362 as: Miller, Henry , Miss Co, 07/6/1926.

Hi Pam:
I'm not sure where the death certificate attachment went, but I didn't rec'v it. If I do rec'v, will post it here. --GJ
GeneJ, On the attachment, do you want me to try it again. Pam
RE: Wells, Henrietta ,Death Certificate
I think so. Is it JPG? You can also click the underlined green text "Upload Files" below these little "reply" windows and attach the file that way. --GJ
I am going to try and send it now, if that doesn't work I will try it a different way or re-scan it to a different program. Pam

Well done!

The death certificate does provide the information I was hoping to learn. Specifically, it says your Henri was buried at North Sawba Cemetery. The cemetery, as it was at the time she was buried, no longer exists, but there is a history about why it doesn't exist that I hope you and your family members find as meaningful as I did. See the research and item by Jennifer Delaney, "North Sawba Cemetery...," 1 Oct 2002.

As you will learn from Delaney's excellant article, North Sawba Cemetery became a "causalty" of WWII. While the base (acutally, bases) are no longer used, Delaney writes, "Of the 339 monuments and markers of other materials totaling 1806 pieces the U.S. Army listed in 1942, only 125 tombstones remain." She continues, "There may be as many as 5000 persons buried in North Sawba Cemetery, however, there are no available records before 1920. Cobb and Holt Funeral Home records, McHaney Monument records, the Blytheville Courier news newspapers were researched and individuals have given the names of their relatives and friends that they know are buried there. A complete listing will never be accomplished."

The community did erect a monument. A full listing of the names on the monument is found in Delaney’s article. The names of those who performed the research also appear in Delaney's article (perhaps on the monument, too).

From Delaney’s list of the names appearing on the monument, we learn about the following Miller entries:

Miller, George Jr.
Mrs. Hester
Hetty
Infant Daughter
Infant Son
Joe

Many, many ideas came to mind when I initially read Delaney’s material. After you’ve had a chance to absorb the same information, we can exchange more notes here.

Also, while I don’t think I’ve yet sought confirmation, at the time I first worked with the Miller list, I felt "George Miller, Jr." might well be Henri’s grandson. Don’t believe I’ve yet distinguished between “Mrs. Hester” and “Hetty.” Still separately, a week or so ago, I did some follow up work about North Sawba Cemetery, including that I interviewed one of the funeral home directors at Mississippi County. That information, too, to come.

As a note of background, in searching some available Mississippi County news items, I located an item about the darth of a Roberts' child. In the news item, the child had been buried at North Sawba Cemetery. It was that news item that lead me to Delaney’s work.

If you are out there, Jennifer Delaney, big thanks!

More later.--GJ

*Delaney’s posting includes a note, “A few of these people still have tombstones. I will add that information later.” No doubt you or your cousins will want to thank her for her work and learn from her more about the record of the tombstones. It may be posted elsewhere online.
GeneJ, Thank you for your report on North Sawba Cemetery. I was aware of it and we ( family members) are sadden that Henri's final resting place will not be found. It is a wonderful article written by Delaney, regarding what happen. I do wish others could read it.
I am not sure as to what relationship there would be of George Jr. and Mrs. Hester Miller and the other two children to Henri and John unless one was a brother ?.. I know that Henri and her husband John had a son named George. But he was not buried there. He died in Sharon, Weakley, TN 1994
I will let you know what I do find. You had mention a death of a Roberts Child?. I think that Rose ( Miller) and her husband Fred Roberts had a son that passed away. I think his name was Wade. I will ask my cousin to make sure.
Once more, Thank's Pam
Here's my earlier research note with the reference (second para) that led me to look further at North Swaba Cemetery.

Located what might be the WWI draft for Rose's husband, Fred Roberts. The draft registration reports his full name as Fred Thomas Roberts. He resided then at Yarbro, Mississippi County, Arkansas and was farming for Walter Roberts, also of Yarbro. This Fred Thomas Roberts, born 21 Jun 1899, reports his nearest realtive as Walter Roberts of Yarbro.

There is an Arkansas Death Index (Ancestry.com) entry; death of a Fred Tho Roberts (presumed truncated) of Mississippi County, Arkansas; reports he died 16 Mar 1937; digital image from that collection doesn't provide more information.
The site www.Newspaperarchive.com has obituary dtd 17 March 1937, pg 1, col. 7. Obituary headline reads, "Meningitis Death here not of Epidemic type." Reports he was, a nine month old flood refugee from the Calument vicinity and son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomas Roberts; child died at Blytheville Hospital; burial was by Rev. R. M. Vernon, at North ?Sawba Cemetery; Cobb Funeral Home handled arrangements.
