I'm looking for the family of my great-great grandfather Scott Washington (Sr.) b. Sep 1859-1861. The earliest record of him is his marrige to Eliza McLain on 2 Feb 1881 in Woodville, Wilkinson Co., MS. The next record of him appears on the 1900 & 1910 Adams County, MS census with his family. After that I don't see him any more, I presume that he is deceased between 1910 and 1920. Which would be correct because this is about the same time my great grandfather took over his property in Adams county, MS. From what I've been able to research, I suspect that he may either have been born in Wilkinson Co., MS or Louisiana. I cannot find him anywhere. . . please help!

GeneJ, thank you so much for your assistance. I've since discovered the reason I couldn't find Scott Washington before 1900. He is Native American (according to some of his still living grandchildren). Choctaw to be precise. After researching his children, all left Mississippi except one. Three went to Muskogee, OK. I'm not exactly sure if I'll be able to find him in any NA records because of his mixed heritage, birth year etc. Additionally, he 'married' African-American. Which adds another layer of complexity to his story because he is listed as colored and mulatto on census records. I'm still at the brick wall, but somewhere else on it... LOL

Ok I want to thank everyone for their assistance on this brickwall. Since this was originally posted waaaay back in October 2009, I have discovered the people whom I believe to be Scott Washington, his mother and 4 siblings. Thanks to some very helpful tips such as locating the children of Scott Washington, I was able to locate through the family bible the name of Scott's mother. Turns out the bondsman on his marriage record may have been his brother. They are all listed on the 1870 census with some name corruptions, but birth years match. Thanks again Gene for the inspiration to look deeper into this still unresolved mystery.
