Looking for parents of Lilly Mae Hutchison. My great great grandmother was Lilly Mae HUTCHINSON born 1870 possibly in Ohio or Indiana. She died on 20 December 1908 at the age of 38, Natchez,MS according to sextons (?) records. Her husband was Joseph Randall POULTER and they were married abt. 1894. I don't know where or when, but somewhere between Indiana and Mississippi. Their children were William Ralph POULTER born 3 December 1894,Vaun POULTER born 25 Decmeber 1897, Josephine POULTER born 1902, Joseph Waldo POULTER ROBERTS (adopted by a neighbor) born 4 August 1904.
I believe that her second son's first name is a clue and that Lilly Mae's mother may have been a VAUGHN. Does anyone know of a HUTCHINSON male who married a VAUGHN female in this time frame?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can help on the location of Lilly and Joseph's marriage location:
Ancestry.com, "Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941," cites Brown County [Indiana] Marriage Records 1853-1901 Books 2-4 Books 2 - 6; book 5, page 327; database information follows.
Lillie M. Hutchison m. Joseph R. Poulter, 17 Oct 1890 at Brown County.
GeneJ, I am amazed. Thank you so much for your help. I have looked several times on Ancestry.com and never found this info. I might be a little closer to finding her parents now.
Much of the credit is to you, Cynthia. You gave us essential facts about what you knew -- their names, approximate date they were married and the most probably locations the marriage would have occurred. .
We still have more work to do on your challenge. I'm hoping you will learn more about them from the underlying record--GJ
I searched the same Indiana Marriage collections for other Hutchison marriages; perhps once we find her family, we can learn if siblings married there in that time frame. Have seen what I presume the surname spelled Hutcherson, etc. in some census entries. --GJ

One George M. Hutchison acquired land at Brown County, Indiana 1 Sep 1856. [Ancestry database, "U.S. General Land Office Records, 1796-1907."]

While not all those that acquired the land actually settled there. Perhaps it gives you another Hutchison to look at more closely.
Was Lilly Mae's husband, Joseph Poulter, the Joseph R. Poulter, ae 4, b. Indiana enumerated in 1870 at Brown County, Indiana, Jackson Twp./P.O. Morgantown; sheet 14 (penned as page), dwelling 107, family 107; parents as Joseph and Harriet A. Poulter; siblings James B. and Louiza A?
Yes,Joseph Randall (RANSDELL)POULTER born August 1865 was my great great grandfather and the son of Joseph POULTER (son of Ransdell POULTER & Eliz. GRITTON) and Harriet A. STEWART (James STEWART & Mildred). Later siblings were Lucinda married 1st Sherman PERCIFIELD and 2nd Samuel RHODES and Isabelle married Lemuel BREEDLOVE.
I've attached a page from the 1900 U.S. Census, Brown County, Indiana, Hamblen twp. There is a red mark to the left across several/households.

The first marked entry on the 1900 census page is for household of William Parsley and Addie; married earlier that year, 7 Feb 1900, at Brown County [See Indiana Marriages; I uploaded an attachment earlier to this challenge; clip includes this marriage] The wife is surely Addie (Hutchinson/Hutchison) Parsley; census indicates she was born February 1882, IN/IN/IN. While I have not performed much work on William Parsley (he seems son of a Henry Parsley, but there are other candidates), it does appear that the women who appears your Joseph Poulter's mother, Harriet A. (____) Poulter, m2 John Parsley on 5 Feb 1879 at Brown County. ["Indiana Marriage Collection, 1800-1941" (index entry)]. In the census of 1880, the man I suspect may have been your Lilly’s husband, Joseph R. Poulter, was living with a couple who are surely John and Harriet (_____) (Poulter) Parsley at Jackson Twp., Brown County. (I've also uploaded that image, too).

Parsley families were at Hamblen Twp., Brown County before the time of the 1850 census; several families were then enumerated there. With a little work, you may be able to conclude a relationship between the John Parsley who seems to have become your Joseph R. Poulter’s step father and the Henry Parsley, who seems to be the father of William Parsley m. Addie Hutchinson/Hutchison.

Last but not least …. In the 1900 census page attached, residing immediately below William and Addie (Hutchinson/Hutchison) Parsley is John and Mary (___) Richardson; residing with the Richardson is William J. Hutchison (b. March 1878) and his wife, Sophia, they have married within the year and have one child, Ethel P., b. Feb 1900. William J. Hutchison is listed as the grandson of John Richardson. Hunting and pecking, I found one indexed Hutchison/Richardson marriage in 1874 that seemed worth mentioning:

Grammarian Hutchison / Mary Cornelia Richardson
Date: 1 March 1874
County: Brown

While I did nothing to further identify William Hutchison’s wife, Sophia, there was an 1899 Indiana marriage at Delaware county you might want to look at:

William Hutchison / Sophia E Gibson
Date: 29 July 1899
County: Delaware

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. I have been trying to browse the 1880 census of Brown County,IN on ancestry.com. It is very frustrating as it takes so long to download one page of the census. I am trying to browse it because they don't have any listings for any HUTCHISON or variations and on the third page Anna HUTCHISON appears with a couple of her children, listed as widowed. Clearly there are people on the census that will not come up when searched for. I will have to see if I can get a copy of Joseph R. POULTER and Lilly Mae HUTCHISONs marriage record. I am hoping her father or another relative is listed on there.
Hi Cynthia:

Let's solve this one!

Noe: Cynthia has posted separately some update comments. Click HERE to view that posting.

Earlier you wrote, "...I have been trying to browse the 1880 census of Brown County,IN on ancestry.com ... frustrating ... don't have any listings for any HUTCHISON."

Okay, if I search Ancestry's database, "1880 United States Federal Census," there are 25 returns for Hut*son residing Brown County, Indiana.

Thanks for your reply and tips on researching GeneJ. I wish I had more time to devote to looking and that my computer had more RAM! {:-D
Cynthia:

You wrote, "I wish ... my computer had more RAM!" Oh, did I ever chuckle.

Actually, if you are like me, you research in "chunks." I find the research log picks up where my brain (and ram) leave off.

Do you use MSWord? How about I take a stab, at least the start of some log entries like those posted on the Ramsey challenge? --GJ
