Is there anyone in this group related to the McGraws of Dryden, Tompkins, New York? They eventually ended up in Ithaca, just down the road. One of the family members was John McGraw, a millionaire who helped established Cornell University. The McGraw Library on the campus is named after him.
If you are related, you may be interested to know that there is a parallel family in Michigan that has quite a few members who have quite interesting histories of their own. The history goes back to the two original brothers, Joseph and Thomas McGraw, that came from Ireland around 1802 to New Britain, Orange County, New York. They settled in New York for about 30 years, after which time Joseph was well established in Tompkins County but Thomas took off for the West and landed in Jackson County in Michigan. It is Thomas' family that is well established in the state of Michigan. The families kept in touch and probably helped John establish his very profitable business of lumbering in Michigan. In its hayday, John's mill was the largest in the world.
So, if you think you might be connected to one of these lines, please let me know. We may have lots to share.  :)
