I looking for information on the Rohrer and Baumwart families that lived in Hagerstown. My ancestor Christian Rohrer married Anna Maria Baumwart in Hagerstown between 1798 and 1802. Variations on Baumwart have been Boward, Boroch. It is believed Christian's parents were Christian Rohrer and Veronica Lehmann and Anna Maria's parents were Henrich Baumwart and Margareth Procunier..
JR, I know this is a bit late in arriving but I was browsing the boards this evening and saw your posts regarding Baltimore and Annapolis. There was no census prior to the 1790 but there were tax assessments prior to the 1790 US Census. Yes, as mentioned, you can find many of the documents at the MD State Archives but with the caveat that copies run about $30-$50 a page. You are allowed to set up a camera and make your own images. The Maryland State Archives online is a tremendous resource and if you do you legwork there before you go to the main archives in Annapolis, you will save yourself a lot of time. For transport of convicts to Maryland during the colonial period, I would look at ship arrivals in Annapolis and Philadelphia.Baltimore was a major port of commerce at the time, but I've seen more colonial arrivals in Annapolis, probably because it's the first stop heading up the Chesapeake? The tax records would list every individual on the property beginning with the property owner, his managers, workers, and so on. Mdlandrec.net is a storehouse of information, not only deeds but court decisions are stored in digital format from the 1600's forward.

Searching for information on Dory (Theodore) Irvin (Irwin, Ervin) born 1787 MD but was in KY by 1840. The birth info comes from later census records.Father could have been James but unsure. He married Elizabeth Wims (Weems). Any help appreciated.
Is anyone researching the BOWIE's of Prince Georges Co.,MD. from the 1700's? Thanks!
I'm returning to my research on my Shaw line from Charles County, Maryland. Particularly, James Shaw (1688-1718). As the information provided on the trees posted online does not jive with my own research, I am looking for anyone who can substantiate that this James Shaw (m. Margaret Thompson) was born in Scotland and a transported Jacobite prisoner and indentured servant or was born in Dorchester County, MD rather than Charles County, MD. Basically, there were SIXTEEN James Shaws transported to Maryland/VA in 1716 and I don't think he is one of them. I am 99% positive that this James Shaw was born in America. I am also about 99% positive that the James Shaw from Dorchester County is one of the sixteen and not the one of my line. So, if anyone out there can support or debunk these conclusions, I would appreciate hearing from them.
