Hello,

I am researching my Martin family line.  Unfortunately, My grandmother died at a very young age and nothing of her family history was preserved.  I have only a few facts to go.  First, her family was involved in the patent of Long Johns, also she originated from Boston.  If anyone has any leads that may be able to help me, I would appreciate the info.  I am really stuck at this point with guessing her family members names, at least until the 1940's census.

Hey Martin Clan!

I am trying to look for info on John Pigg Martin b. april 23, 1777 , Henry County, Virginia  d. July 2, 1867 in Smith County, Misssissppi.   Looking for his parents!  That would solve a huge mystery in my Martin lineage.     Are you a distant cousin???!!   Do you have any info on these Martins?    Thanks   i always KNEW Martin's were special people

I am in the process of proving my lineage back to the Irish immigrant, William Martin (29 Mar 1718-16 Jan 1780).  He died in Cocolamus, Juniata Co., PA.  His wife was Margaret (26 Apr 1721-23 Dec 1796).  She, too, was born in Ireland and died in Cocolamus.  He was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War having served under Capt William Butler 2nd Battalion.

Their son, David Martin (24 Oct 1745-19 Apr 1805) is said to be the executor of his father's will.  If at all possible, I need to obtain a copy of that will, or at least the parts that show his heirs.  David was born in Cumberland Co., PA and died in Fairfield Co., OH.  He was married first to Grizella McMeen (1748-1780) with whom he had three children.  She was born in and died in Cumberland Co., PA.  I would also be interested, if possible, in obtaining a copy of David's will if there was one.  David was also a veteran of the American Revolutionary War with his service being with Capt. Hugh McAlister's Co.

Also, I need to prove the connection between David and his son, William (11 May 1772-6 Nov 1852).  William was born in Fermanagh, Cumberland Co., PA and died in Carroll Co., IN.  He was married to Phoebe Larimer (15 Jun 1766-15 Jun 1836).  She was born in Cocolamus and died in Carroll Co., IN, too.  It may be possible that this connection may be in spelled out in the will of the elder William, above.  The younger William fought in the War of 1812 as a Lieutenant in Capt. William Sumner's Co.

Any help from fellow Martin researchers would be appreciated!

Betty, I'm still gathering connections with Joseph and John Martin.  Still supposing Joseph is father to Thomas T, Wm Moon, James, John and others.  Was wondering if you can share what and how you think Robert is related and about the Joseph B you mention?   Did any of your Martin family have DNA done?  If not, is there anyone descending from the Martin line that would have it done?  What can you tell me about the John Martin of Wilson Co?  We think he could be Joseph's father but need more dots to connect them...

Also, Marianna Isgrig: Tell me about your John Martin too.  There are so many John Martins that we need to be certain that we eliminate those NOT in our line.

Some of the Martins went to Ky, then to Tn, then to Ga and Al, then Ark and Tx Some went from Ky to Ohio to Missouri... Who knows which were where and when?  Hopefully, we leave a far more clear trail when we go.

Hello, I am new to researching ancestry so any suggestions will be well recieved and appreciated! I am looking for information on Ida Lee Martin born in Maries co, Missouri. She was at least 1/2 cherokee. Her parents William Clayton Martin and Lydia Ann Carnes. William's father was John Martin born in NC about 1817. I believe that they came to Missouri in early 1830's from NC by way of Tennessee. Not sure how long they were in Tn or what area. Also not sure what area of NC they came from. I have a little more information to share if this is sounding familiar to anyone.

Question for the Group: Sampson Martin SR was born in 1805 in spartenburg,SC and his children were James Knox Polk Martin,Sampson Martin JR, Mary Martin, Catherine Martin, Jane Martin Telitha Martin and Finaly Elizabeth Martin. Do these connect to any other trees out there. I have gone as far as i can with the Martins side and need help.
James Knox Polk Martin B 07-12-1843 in Waren TN -D 12-29-1922 in Whitley KY was my moms Great Grandfather.

His daughter Maudie Mae Martin B 04-1885 In Whitley KY Married William Harvey Kidd of Whitley KY

I have records indicating that James Knox Polk Martin was married to Silvana Lovitt 10-12-1865 But again this is where the information stops. anyone???

Betty, yes this is sounding possible. Joseph the father was on Tax list of Cpt. Crawley in Tn 1803, Cpt Blalock's district 1804 w/200 A. on Barton's Creek. 1805 is on Cpt Martin's tax list w 220 A . He was on Cpt.Martin's tax list 1806 for 100A and in 1807 for 140 A on Sinking Creek. He sold land in 1810 to John Randolph in town of Lebanon. He had children named James b. 1807 but m. Elizabeth Ann Combs, Thomas T. b. by 1800 m. Keziah Bradley b. 1803 SC, William Moon b.1803 m. Levinia Sherrill, Elizabeth b. 1805 m. Issac Taylor. Ruben E. b. 1819 m. Harriet Bean, Malinda b. 1817 m. John Rutherford, Martha b. 1812 m. Anthony Alvis Reed. He sold his land in Tn about 1811 and was in that War 1813 at age 41. He then moved into Ark in 1820s. He may have been in Ga or NC before he went to Ark. We know Thomas, James and Wm were buying land in Ark by 1820. Joseph is in Ark by Tax list in Pope Co Ark in 1828.
I don't know about Robert but there are several years after Thomas T's birth before children became an annual event that were not marked as births. Where was Robert B born ? There were many repeating names. In Ga and NC there were some Vaughans that Martins married. Might have been Hudson or Cluff Martin, I don't recall off the top of my head.
I'm going to send your info to our group and see if anyone can figure it out and get back to you.
Tina, I see the timeline might be right but again, I need to check with the Martins to be certain I can answer you correctly.
I wish it were clear for all of us.
I'll be back to you soon as I check the facts. You can Email me if you wish for copies of all I have.

Cindy, I am looking for info on the MARTINs of Wilson CO, TN. My ancestor is James Martin born about 1803 in NC or VA (census info varies)... I know he had a brother named Robert B. Martin (b. abt 1801) My James Martin married Mary Eason in Wilson County in 1825. Thier son Joseph B. Martin was born 18 Dec 1825. Mary died abt 1827 and James married Harriet Hagerty in 1830 in Wilson Co. Robert B. Martin married Cynthia Hagerty sister of Harriet. They were the daughters of Patrick Hagerty and Elizabeth Eason. The Hagertys and the Eason families came from Gates Co, NC. by 1800.

Could my James be kin to your Joseph??

I found this information on Ancestry.com regarding Thomas Martin's Will 1816.
He had a wife with the last name Williams and his brother John Martin also had a wife with last name Williams. Both Thomas and John Martin were mentioned in my GGGG Grandfather, Daniel Williams' Will. The Williams' daughters' names were not given. I am searching for descendants of these two Martins.

Will of Thomas Martin (signed 3 Jan 1816, proven Mar Court 1816) named 8 children. The sons (not necessarily in age-order) were Samuel D., Isaac, Joseph, John, Thomas, and Daniel; daughters were Abrilla and Drusilla. Joseph Martin was executor along with widow-Ruth. That guarantees that Joseph was of legal age in 1816 (born by 1795). He'd have been the oldest of the sons still resident in Christian Co KY. Joseph Martin married Jane Rager, whose family thoughtfully kept a Bible. Joseph (28 Dec 1789 - 4 Nov 1869) was born in Wilkes Co GA, died in Todd Co KY. QED: Thomas and Ruth Williams Martin lived in Wilkes Co GA at the time of the 1790 census. As did John and Drusilla Williams Martin

Hi Martin followers! Since my last post several things have changed. Thomas Tilman Martin is NOT the son of Joseph and Patsey Martin as I posted last Feb. He is the son of a Joseph Martin, wife unkn. b. ~1772 probably Albermarle Va. This Joseph was in Wilson County Tn before 1800 and had several children there. Thomas T had brothers James, John, William Moon, as well as sisters Elizabeth and Martha. In total, there were 18 children, many as yet undiscovered. The previously mentioned children moved to Arkansas about 1819-20 and Joseph had his remaining children there and died there.
Recent evidence shows part of these children were also in Georgia, dying in Olgethorpe Co. Many went on to Texas and Oklahoma by 1850.

Recently 2 family members did DNA and we are related to Cluff or Clough Martin, John Henry Martin of Missouri? Hudson Martin and closely compare to several groups in the study.

I believe several of you are of the same lines from the postings I have seen. The names and instances posted by Cheryl Hoover Davis, Betty Vaughn, Shay Farnsworth, Judy Kinney, Candy Kammerman and maybe others seem as though you might also be of this line.
I will be happy to share whatever our group and our researcher has found with you, if you wish. I can be reached by email cjhanrahan@sbcglobal.net if you are one of these named persons and would like to discuss what we have found...and share what you know.
We are debating at the moment if Joseph Martin's father might be Shadrack Henderson, also know as Shadrack Martin. Do any of you have this odd situation in your lineage? Maybe you can clear it up for us.
I look forward to sharing information with you. Once I learn to add stuff here, I will also post it here for you.
Cindy
