The earliest of my Lucas family is Thomas born in Leatherhead Surrey England in 1759; he arrived in Australia on the 1st fleet in 1788 as a Marine and married Ann Howard he had 4 children all born in Australia. I am trying to find Thomas Lucas' parents.

On the same ship as Thomas was a Nathaniel Lucas he later married Olivia Gascoine, There is a possibility that Thomas and Nathaniel were related to each other as Thomas named his 4th child Nathaniel, and Nathaniel named his last and 11th child Thomas. So a bit of a mystery to clear up or more relatives to find.

Hello Heather,

I have some information which may be of interest. I recently had a match on Ancestry DNA to a direct ancestor of Nathaniel Lucas (convict on the First Fleet). I have been carrying out my own Lucas family research for some years but could only get back as far back as my GG Grandfather Henry William Lucas, born in St Lukes District of London in 1846/47(now part of Holborn registration district). I have not found a record of his birth but Census entries from 1871 onwards are consistent for St Lukes as his birth parish and his year of birth as 1846/7. On his 1869 marriage certificate to Lydia Crebo he gives his father as Thomas Lucas(deceased). I have noticed on the internet that there are numerous theories of Nathaniel and Thomas Lucas on the 1st Fleet being related. My GGG Grandfather Thomas Lucas could be related to Nathaniel Lucas. I am waiting for a response back from my Ancestry DNA match in order to get further clarification.
