Most of my Mississippi families go back and forth across the Louisiana border all through the 1800's and into the mid 1900's. Those families being Smith, Sutton, Rembert and Cutrer among others. They were involved in logging along the Illinois Central railroad line.

Hello! I'm looking for information on Pointe Coupee, East and West Feliciana Parish general history. I'm also looking specifically for information on the Ellis-Farar Families of Louisiana and Mississippi. I have discovered that the last known owner of my great-great-great grandparents were Dr. William Newton Mercer who married into the Farar family. They were Charles (Charlie) and Charity Rounds.
I'm also looking into the history of Port Hudson, LA and the Corps de Afrique which later became known as the United States Colored Troops (USCT). My great-great grandfather Benjamin Thompson served in the 82nd USCT Infantry. Any history or information would be very helpful in digging up my Louisiana roots. Thanks!
