My Lloyds are not relatives, but they are important to our family history. They came to Jefferson County, Missouri from Wales before the Civil War.

I have Robert Lloyd and his wife Rosa (born in Wales and Ireland respectively) in the 1870 Missouri census for Jefferson County, with my grandfather, James Henry Dorrance, living in their household. Bridget McNulty and her sister, Mary A. McNulty are also living in that household. J. H. Dorrance (age 14) was an orphan at that time. I belive that his parents died in 1860. The family always said that the Lloyds were my grandfather's godparents, but I have found no evidence to support this.

The Jefferson County Historical society shows a tombstone for Robert Lloyd with a death of around 1872. I'm not sure what happened to J.H. between that time and the birth of his second daughter 1884.

In the 1930s I met "young" Mr. Lloyd, who was introduced to me as my grandfather's foster brother, but the young Robert Lloyd who appears on the 1870 census was also dead at around the same time his father was.

There is also a Richard Lloyd family listed on the 1870 census, but I didn't copy that entry at the time that I found it, because my grandfather was listed with the Robert Lloyd family.

I now wonder if Robert and Richard Lloyd were brothers, and if Richard Lloyd was guardian after Robert Lloyd died.

Almost all of my research at this time has been through the internet, because other activities have prevented us from going down to Jefferson county for on-site searching (at which we are total novices!).

Does anyone know anthing about these Lloyds?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to follow up on them?

Sue
