Hi Daniel and welcome to the group.  I am sorry I don't have anything on the Lemmons in PA or KY.  I hope someone sees your query and can be of further help.  I see your Cox connection which is in IN.  My Cox connection is with Sarah Cox who married my William Lemmons 1802 in Williamson Co., TN.  I have nothing further on my Cox ancestry, except for her.  She was born circa 1781 and deceased circa 1860.

Marshall, I am familiar with your Matilda Lemmons who married Elihu Cole and had been trying to figure out who she was.  I feel strongly that she was married to a Lemmons who had recently died.  And that she had 2 sons by him.  I think her first husband was related to James B. Lemmons and his brother Alvin, both still living by 1850.  There are no marriages for James and Alvin Wm., likely due to them living in a burned out county records which may be the same reason why no marriage for Matilda to a Lemmons in TN.  I lost track of Matilda after the 1850 census and am glad to know that they moved to TX.  It might be easier to correspond via e-mail.  Mine is lemstar97@yahoo.com.

I have long been trying to trace a Lemmons branch of my tree and you might be able to help.  My GrGrGrandfather was William Henry Lemmons, born abt. 1840 in Tennessee.  His mother was Matilda Lemmons, born abt. 1825 in Tennessee.  She married Elihu Cole in Montgomery County, AR on 24 Jan 1846.  I have been unable to find Matilda's history prior to her marriage.  The family is listed in the 1850 census for Montgomery County.  I noticed James B. Lemmons moved to Montgomery County in the late 1840's.  One tree I saw had James B. Lemmons married to a Mary Cabler.  Could James B. Lemmons have been previously married?  Members of the Cole family moved to Texas and are in the 1870 and 1880 census in McCulloch County, TX.  William H. Lemmons is in the 1880 census in Taylor County, TX and supposedly was shot in Pecos, TX after 1880.  Any info you may have on who William Henry Lemmons father might be would be very helpful.

Hello Linda and welcome to the group. I wish my Lemmons line would go back a bit further so I would know the original state they started from. My line goes back to William Lemmons who shows up in middle Tennessee, marrying Sarah Cox 1802 in Williamson Co. and living in Bedford Co. when he enlisted for duty during War of 1812. He was killed at the Battle of New Orleans in 1814. His son James B. Lemmons moved to west TN then to Montgomery Co. / Polk Co. area of Arkansas late 1840s. Eventually his descendants spread out into Oklahoma and Texas. DNA testing showed a connection to the Lemmons of Troublesome Creek in North Carolina. I haven't found a connection yet to the family history compiled by a Troublesome Creek Lemmons descendant. Still looking. Feel free to share your family history.

My Lemon family is from Ware, Petsworth, Abingdon Gloucester and other parts of Virginia. They date back to the 1700s.
