Pictured above is the entrance to Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin which probably has the largest number of Kennedy graves in the British/Irish Isles. I have photographed about 60 of them but its tricky to get to all the stones as in Ireland gravestones tend to be closely packed together. The biggest in Scotland is Ayr cemetery with about 70 photographed. If anyone is looking for a Kennedy burial in either of these places drop me a private message and I can do a lookup; some of the burials are 20th century so its not appropriate to post the full details. I have similar Kennedy gravestone photographs taken in Limerick, Nenagh, Donegal, Derry/Londonderry and Belfast as well as all over Scotland.

Hello, I have been trying to trace my Kennedy's without much luck. I know they settled in PA near Conococheague Creek and for generations my family has been in Franklin County (currently Chambersburg). It gets confusing because John and David were common names through my direct line, then Lazarus. My direct line is William (?), David (1), John, David (3), Lazarus (1, 2, 3), Harold D., Harold P.

I have not been able to verify that William is David's father. Franklin County History that I have read mention the 3 Davids as if they are one in the same, but they are not (dates are different). I was hoping that someone might know where I might look from here.

I know that David (1) was believed to have been married to a Seneca Indian Maiden (felt to be a relative of Cornplanter). David had 5 children (to confuse things named his 2 sons John and David (2)). John had 3 children named Ellen, Mary, and David (3). David (3) had a son named Lazarus (1) that he left his land to when he passed.

The first David is believed to have been born about 1708 and died about 1768. I cannot verify when or how he came to the US, nor can I verify that William is his father's name. Apparently John and David are traditional names for the Kennedy's.

Hello Iain,

Thanks for the message.  My family is quite well documented and I became interested in genealogy after my grandfather died and I received pictures and documents of my family.  One of them was a family history written about 50 years ago my 2 of my fathers older cousins. The history began with a letter written by my gg grandfather James Kennedy to his son James (my g grandfather).  "Cargill, March 15, 1854...Dear James, Lose no time in meeting with us, and your brothers and sisters to consult about going to America..." The letter as well as 3 thick folder of documentation on the Kennedy's is at the Osgoode Historical Society and Museum.  This in Carlton county, Osgoode County, Ontario which is just south of Ottawa (the capital of Canada).  The family settled there and became sucessful farmers and blacksmiths.  The majority of the Kennedy family is buried in Springhill cemetery in Osgoode County. I have visited the cemetery and museum and many of the gravestones of my ancestors are transcribed with " Native of Cargill, Perthshire, Scotland."  I  have also researched the 1861 census of Canada (in which they first appeared) as well as Ontario Birth, Marriage & Death (which lists birthplace)...as well as 1841 and 1851census of Scotland.  I have not yet found a Canadian record of their exact date of immigration to Canada...but based on the year of the letter and the last birth of one of David Kennedy's children in Scotland (1855) and the birth of his next child in Canada (31Dec1956) I am pretty certain that they immigrated in 1856.

There is also mention of other family members the immigrated earlier, and based on information at the Historical Society as well as proximity of their homesteads on maps of the 1800's as well as gravestones in the Springhill cemetery, I am making the assumption that they are brothers of James (1783-1961)Kennedy.  They are Alexander Kennedy (1789-1852) & David Daniel Kennedy (1797-1861).  There is a Kennedy Road and a Kennedy Corners in Osgoode County to this day, named for my ancestors.

It is interesting to note that of all of the decendants of James Kennedy, that my father, his brother and their 2 cousins are the only males that retained the name Kennedy. My father is the only remaining member still living of his generation (he is 91) but my generation is doing its part in keeping the family name alive in Canada!

If you have any further information on the Kennedys of Cargill I would sure appreciate it.  I am also curious as to what would cause a whole family of Kennedys to leave Perthshire in 1956 and head to Canada.

Well I guess I have rambled on long enough!

Best regards,

Chris Kennedy

Chris, thanks for posting. I'm always keen to here about more Perthshire Kennedy families as its my home county. How did you nail the proof that this is your immigrant family please? Then I can add an emigration note to my database for them.

HI...I am trying to find info on Edmond/Edmund Kennedy b c 1743 d 1805...some say his first wife, my line, was Hannah Lusk but the dates do not add up so some like myself, don't believe this to be true.  His 2nd wife was Jane Boggs. He had 12 kids by his 1st wife and 5 with Jane. He was in several records in Pitt NC from early 1760s and from there to Abbeville, SC.  If anyone has any info on Edmond, I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with me.

Thanks,

Kathy

My step-grandmother, Dorothy Mabel was one daughter of William S. Newell (1867-1917) and Carrie Kennedy (1876-1958), Louisa County, Iowa USA.

Carrie Kennedy (Kennedy)'s parents were Joseph C. Kennedy and Martha Kennedy.

Martha's parents show as a George Jr. Kennedy(1814-1855) and M. Gault

George Jr. son of George Sr. Kennedy (1775-1857) and Mary Paul (1776-1835)

George Sr. dad a James Kenndy and mother unknown McCleary

Joseph C. Kennedy (1832-1901) was son of a William Kennedy and Nancy Catherwood (1806-1890)

Any information on the above names would be wonderful!  I am just starting out on this research and so far this is what I have found.  Thank you.

I made a slight typo on my earlier post. Mr MACDONALD was Joseph not John. Joseph & Lucy are on the 1881 Census in Main A Dieu. Living with them is Cassie KELLY, she is 1st cousin 3 removed to me on my mother's side. Cassie was one of 10 children and was only 5 when her mother died, so the younger ones were sent to live with relatives and neighbours. Lucy MACDONALD was Cassie's Aunt, so I makes sense why she is there, the EDWARD connection is still elusive.

Do you have the census references for these Kennedys and their nativity/ethnicity? And are John and Lucy (Kennedy) MacDonald already present in 1881 or only later? I can see the Edwards family in Cape Breton 1881.

Hi;
My 2GGrandparents on my Dad's side are; Joseph EDWARDS b. abt. 1851 Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada and Flora McDOUGALL b abt 1851 Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. They seem to disappear after the Canadian 1881 Census. My GGrandfather Alexander EDWARDS was born just after the census was taken, but he and his brother Joseph Francis EDWARDS were raised by a seemingly unrelated families of KENNEDY & MacDONALD. Alex was raised by John & Lucy (KENNEDY) MacDONALD and Joseph Francis was raised by Catherine & Susan KENNEDY (sisters to Lucy). There were also 3 sisters to Alex and Joseph Francis, Mary Ann, Margaret Jane and Florence.
I would like to find out what happened to Joseph & Flora as well as what was the relationship to the KENNEDY's. Joseph's parents were John & Mary EDWARDS and Flora's parents were Neil & Christy (McCUISH) McDOUGALL.

Any help with this line would be most appreciated.
