Kennedy family connection to the Cassels
I just signed on to this group.
First I would like to contribute something.
Many years ago I copied an entire book at a Family History Center, about the Kennedy & Cassels families. Well now you can just look at/or copy the whole book from google books. I thought others might be interested.

I would like to ask a question. Has any proven connection to the Kennedy clan or Cassels that might also be at this site had their Ydna tested.
I had my Ydna tested a couple of years ago and it would be very interesting to see if other Kennedy's or Cassels match. My name is now Castle but was spelled Cassels before the 1900s.
About a year ago I had my Ydna connect to Cassels that came from Germany (but were probably French Huguenots ) to Pennsylvania America in 1684. I am wondering if such a dispersion of families of Protestants, such as Covenators etc. during the Reformation, that we are all related by Ydna.
Their seems to be such a reluctance to having such a modern tool as Ydna testing, and not using it to break down our brick walls. It proves connections, but even more or as important it dis-proves connections.

I run the Kennedy DNA testing in Scotland and Ireland but it is not always conducted and discussed in the public domain as we like to be more discrete about such matters over here. However if you want to email me your results at kennedy@one-name.org I will see if I have any comments. I don't give out names of other participants in internet forums.
I keep on open mind on the derivation and genealogical connections of Cassels, having only looked briefly into it so far. I have read the book you mention before and only note that it has no proof of the Ayrshire - Linlithgow connection so unless there is an advance on that, its unproven so far and needs more research.

This connection is likely not connected to your interests but I thought I would pass it on anyway. I had a grand uncle Granville Kennedy who died at birth and was buried in the Cassel family cemetery about 7 miles east of Abingdon, VA USA. I don't believe that there was any family connection. He was born on Jan, 28, 1862. Incidentally, my father Granville Kennedy was born Jan 28 1899 and I was born Jan 28 1932. My father didn't know of his namesake uncle until shortly before his death. Several years ago I exchanged emails with a lady that was interested in the Cassel cemetery and what happened to the family.
