Thank you for the add to the group , my purpose for joining is in search of clarity in my own lineage , as far as I  know I am not connected to the Johnston /Johnstone lines directly , my surname is a sept of Douglas's .       There is a ''1503 Drysdale document'' that I  myself believe to be a dishonest distortion of history , conjured up in print first by the Dunfermline Press , September 30 1863 ... However It lists  Johnston of Greenstone Hill having lost 14 men on the 20th of May 1503 by the hands of 4 Douglas's .

This was the first form I read this ''story'' in probably 40 years ago

My question is has anyone heard of this ?  From my readings of Johnston history there is  no mention is made of this - I do not believe a word of it .

It is so hard to place kids with their parents prior to 1850, I thought I would post this to see if it would help.

In Mobile in 1848, Harriet Linder Johnston divorced her husband Daniel L. Johnston (son of Daniel Johnston killed by Creeks 1816 and Elizabeth Linder).  They had the following children. Andrew born 1829, Sophia born 1830 died 1847 (married Berry Ellison), John born 1835, Elizabeth born 1837 married Elisha Nash, Lavinia born 1833 and Ionia born 1842. Would love to locate and of these descendants. I think Lavinia may have married Thomas Wilson in Mobile in 1850.

Oh divorce papers say that Daniel Johnston killed a man in 1845 and skipped town!!

Need help finding them on census and any descendants.

Hello. I'm fairly new to all this and don't even know if I'm in the right place. I am successfully piecing together my family tree but have hit a brick wall with my great grandad.

His name was JOSEPH JOHNSTON and he was born in Northern Ireland in 1866. He married an Elizabeth Ellen Kneebone in 1891 in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK (nee Moon - b. 1872 Cornwall, d. 1953 Barrow-in-Furness) and this pair made my granddad Clifford Johnston (b.1912 Barrow-in-Furness) and he is my Mam's Dad.

Can anyone help with any info at all on Joseph Johnston...such as his parents..because that's all I've got??

Thank you.

Shaun.

My great grand father was Joseph Lee Johnston. He was born July 19, 1872. I know that in 1896 he was living in Walla Walla, Washington and marred Nellie Grant Money. They had a daughter, Martha. Later he married Liilian Martha Gardner and they had three children Davis, Helen, and Donald Wesley. They lived in Hayes, Washington and Portland, Oregon. Does anyone have any information? I am trying to locate the descendants of Harriet Linder & Daniel L. Johnston of Mobile Alabama. Harriet filed for divorce in 1847.

State: Alabama Year: 1847
Location: Mobile Location Type: County

Abstract: In 1827, Harriet Linder married Daniel L Johnston, but for many years he did nothing to support the family. Besides being shiftless, Harriet asserts, Daniel is a man with "a high temper and revengeful disposition" who does nothing for their six children. Harriet owns, by inheritance a small amount of real property--land in Baldwin and Mobile counties. She also owns four slaves, including a woman and her three small children. She fears that, if she and her husband remain married, she will lose this small estate. Harriet seeks a divorce, and asks that her husband's "right, title, and interest" in the land and slaves be turned over to her.......

State: Alabama Year: 1848
Location: Mobile Location Type: County

Abstract: In 1827, Harriet L. Linder married Daniel L. Johnston, who, she contends, "although well able to work & to support his family, has added nothing to their support." Indeed, over the years, David squandered much of what she earned, and has now has abandoned the family. With five children to support, she purchased a slave woman and her three small children, using funds from the sale of land bequeathed to her by her father. Fearful that she might lose this small estate if she remains married, Harriet Johnston files for divorce.

Any help finding Harriet & her children in 1850 or later would be appreciated.

Betty Vaughn (descendant of Harriet's Aunt & Uncle)

OOOPSY! Ignore the first John Johnston, Canada, who died in Johnsonville. I actually don't have a confirmed connection to him. :-[

I'm not even sure why I have him....

Hello, I am researching my family line (namely my father's maternal line at the moment). His grandfather was Samuel Johnston born in Northern Ireland Co. Armagh, Loughall and his grandmother was Jane/Jean Russell born in Scotland, possibly near Glasgow or Edinburgh. They married and immigrated seperately to NYC in 1883 and 1884 where they spent the rest of their lives. They had one son named John who was born in Ireland 1883, the rest of the children (Samuel Jr. 1885, Elizabeth 1890,Jemima (Mae) Hamilton 1892, Joseph 1896-1902?, and Jean(ne) 1900) were born in Manhattan. Mae married Claude Sallee (my grandfather) and they lived in the NYC-Long Island area until their deaths. geven the commonality of the name, I have been unable to trace back very far into Ireland or Scotland. I was told that Sam had a number of siblings that came over too, one may have been named Moses. My dad recently sent in his DNA sample and we are hoping to find some kind of connection from it. Thank you in advance for any information anyone may have ....it's an addiction I know :)
