My Irish family consists of the Phelans and Stapletons. John Phelan and Susana Whittaker from Ballyragget, Kilkenny and James Stapletons also from Ballyragget. The story goes that when Phelans emigrated to Canada about 1832 they brought with them a young boy James Stapleton. He later married their youngest daughter Ellen in Stratford, Ontario. I am their g-g-g-g granddaughter. We believe that James parents were Thomas and Margaret Stapleton. But at this point James life is purely speculation until he marries Ellen in Canada.

Stephen, I toured Northern Ireland in '06 & '07 & spent some time at PRONI but didn't ask about emigration records from Larne. Did you find them there? Martha

I have been looking for the McLister family for many years. I know that James and Jane McLister emigrated to South Carolina from Larne, Antrim in 1819. Among their children that made the voyage with them were James, John, Margaret, and Alexander (b.1791) with his wife, Mary Chisolm (b.1792). Their brother Abraham McLister did not make the journey and stayed in Larne. I found him listed at PRONI when i visited Larne and Belfast in 1999. I do not know what became of him. I would like to find more information about this family. Thanks.

According to the 1911 English census, my Great Grandfather William John Ross was born around 1855 in High Stroan, Antrim. His father's name was James Ross. William was a part of the Cameron Highlanders in 1891 census but stated that he was born in Glasgow Scotland.. I am trying to find out the following:
How did he join the Cameron Highlanders if he was born in Ireland?
When did he move to Scotland?
How can I find out where I can find his birth certificate and or his parents marriage certificate.
Thanks
Marie

Born Michael Madden of Ireland in about 1820 and came to USA before 1860. Found in the 1860 Census for Bellville, Richland, Ohio with wife Annorah or Hannorah, or Anorah and 3 children all born in Ohio,USA. I am trying to find out where he came from in Ireland and who his parents were. It is rumored that he came from Corey or sounds like that, and his wife's maiden name was Welsh or Welch.

QUINN, KAVANAUGH, BYRNE, HIGGINS

Looking for any information on the Quinn, Byrne and Kavanaugh families, all of whom are believed to have been resident in the Borris area of Carlow c1810.

I am also interested in any information on Higgins families who would have emigrated to the Quebec/St. Anicet area of Canada by 1830 or so. I have no information on what part of Ireland they were from.
