The naturalization records in the Shelby county courthouse have been filmed and are available through the Family History Library in Salt Lake and the State Historical Library in Des Moines. I checked the online list and the records for Shelby County don't start until 1879. That may mean they truly didn't start until then or the earlier ones were intermingled with other court records or the earlu records have been lost. If he really was naturalized in 1870, the information on the records is generally pretty sparse.

I have a class picture from Roosevelt High, January 1937 in Des Moines, if anyone knows a relative from then. My mother is in it.

Connie - Have you checked with the Danish Genealogical Library in Elk Horn, IA? Not only do they specialize in Danish genealogy but they happen to be located in Shelby County.

Hello
I am trying to locate the naturalization records for my gg grandfather who came to America from Denmark. Says naturalized in 1870 so he might of still been in Iowa before moving to Nebraska. His name was John Hollander, and his father was Hans Hollander. They were in Shelby county if that helps any. Thanks for any tips

If any one can help with information on the Caufield family in Clare, Webster Co., Iowa. Patrick Caufield married Maggie (Troy?) and had 5 children. The oldest daughter was Mae born in late 1870's to early 1880's. Lauretta was one of the last children and Maggie, her mother, died somewhere after her birth. Lauretta was born in the mid 1880's. Any help will be appreciated.

What collection are you looking at when at the historical building? I have been less than impressed. When I compare what is at the MN historical building, it is night and day both in terms of content but facilities (hand crank versus motorized microfilm readers, comes to mind). Perhaps I am missing something. Could you please more specific about the collections that you found wonderful? I would like to check them out. Thanks.

Anyone searching for ancestors in Iowa must see the collections at the Historical building in Des Moines. It is wonderful.
