Hi Linda. The 1925 Census is available online through Ancestry.com. Other sources of the information are on microfilm available through the Family History Library and I believe through the Iowa Historical Society (in Des Moines and in Iowa City). The Iowa Genealogical Society did a lookup for me a few years back and sent copies printed from the microfilm. Good luck!!

Hi all. I'm a librarian at the Waterloo Public Library (WPL) in Waterloo, Iowa, but I also have personal interests in genealogy. However, if anyone needs any help with genealogy in Black Hawk County, feel free to contact me at WPL at (319) 291-4476, or by e-mail to infowiz.wpl@gmail.com.

My personal interests are Munn, Halter and Loupee families in Jasper and Marshall counties, Smoot and Reiley in the Burlington area (Des Moines County), and Dahlgren in Cherokee county, among others.

Shirley, please message me. My granddaughter's 3rd great grandparents are Alva Pettis and Minnie Mae Dunn! Let's share. Maybe I've already emailed you. Are you Charlee's sister? Your name is familiar. Yup, I'll bet you are.

My Iowans are DUNN, PETTIS, DANIEL and MCGILL. They settled in Clarke and Decatur Counties. Patrick Dunn immigrated in 1860 from Ireland.

The naturalization records will be in the courthouse at the county seat of Washington. The records have been microfilmed and are available at the State Historical Library in Des Moines (and perhaps at the SHSI library in Iowa City - I can't say for certain). And they can also be ordered out to a local LDS Family History Center from the Family History Library in Salt Lake. Sometimes it's easier to use the microfilm than try to arrange to look at the original records at the courthouse. It depends on the policies of the county office. The other thing to think about is that Kalona is on the northern edge of the county so residents there might have found it more convenient to go up to the Johnson County courthouse in Iowa City. Looking at records in a central location like the Historical Library gives you the chance to check out more than one county when you are researching.
