Hello,

I am researching Peter Hauver/Hauber/etc. of Frederick Co., Md.  My 4-great-grandfather, Ludwick Snyder [also written as Ludwig/Lodwick/etc. and Schneider/Snider/etc.] was bound out to a Peter Hauver in June of 1780, when Ludwick was 11 years old.  Ludwick’s father, Jacob Snyder, had died in 1778, and his mother had the three youngest boys bound out to various tradesmen.  The Snyder farm was in the Kittoctin Hundred of Frederick County, which later became Hauvers District.  The land is currently in the westernmost end of Catoctin Mountain State Park.  Peter was to teach Ludwick the trade of a shoemaker (and provide him lodging, food, clothes and the like, as well as provide instruction in reading, writing, etc.).  Ludwick and Peter would have been due to be released from the order in September of 1789.

 

So, I’ve been searching for some time among the records of the various Hauber/Hauver/Hoover/etc. families of Frederick Co., Md. in an attempt to located the Peter Hauver who raised Ludwick Snyder.  A likely candidate is the Peter Hauver of your family (although he would have been young to have been chosen as such – 26 years old – I would think.  Do you know exactly where his farm was?  Did he carry on the trade of a shoemaker in addition to farming?

 

Also, one of Ludwick’s brothers, Daniel Snyder, was bound out to another Hauver.  The first name is smudged in the order, but it definitely starts with a ‘J’ and would appear to be Jacob Hauver.  He was to teach Daniel the trade of a weaver.

Haven't spoken with you in a long while! Hope you are well and still involved with continuing research into the Hawvers. I am still actively working with my family genealogies as I have time. I am finished with my masters degree and am now a nursing instructor for a local community college. My kids are now grown and I have a little more time these days to research. Hope to hear from you!

Hi, Robin,
Lowell is a good contact. He's an old friend of my dad, and they've been sharing genealogy notes for over 20 years. I'm sure he'll be helpful. I suspect he'll be interested in any new info you've uncovered too...

The tree is not posted on Ancestry--largely because I have a lot of not-fully-confirmed information in there. I like to keep such items in the file until I can confirm or disaffirm them.

Look forward to hear more from you, and to seeing some of the pictures, etc. you've been discovering!

I had a Lowell Nichols post a reply on the Ancestry Hawver Board. Have you corresponded with him? I am always looking for information if there is anything new to come to light. I keep hoping some of the peripheral people in the family may discover earlier information than you or I might have. Also, do you have the Hawver family tree posted on Ancestry? I thought this should be moved over here for relevance. I show only the one wife. We think the marriage date was 1775-1782.
I don't see any George Hauver/Hawver's married to a Rebecca Sneider. Do you have a source for that?

Oops, change that to the other trees showing Rebecca Sneider to be the spouse of a George Hawver born in 1769. They are shown as the parents of Daniel H, the father of my Susannah. . Comment by Robin Borchers 1 day ago Dennis,
I have found three other family trees that list Rebecca Sneider as Peter/Johann's wife. Have you seen that or encountered it? Did he have more than one wife?

Hi, Robin,
It HAS been some time. Good to hear from you. We have made progress in tracing back our mutual line. I show Daniel H. Hawver's parents to be:
Peter Hauver/Johann Peter Haber. 3/1/1754-12/1835, and
Hannah Casebier/Kassbehr, 1756-?
Peter Hauver's parents were: Jorg/George Hauver/Heber, 1730-1880, and
Anna Susannah Harmon, ~1732-~1800
Jorg's father, we think, was Daniel Hauver, one of the origianl immigrants.

Have you checked on any of these?

Hello Dennis,
I haven't corresponded with you for awhile. Have you learned anything new about our family in MD? I am still looking for earlier information on Daniel H. and Elizabeth Browne Hawver, my great-great grandmother, Susannah Hawver Retter's family. I have never gotten earlier than Daniel and Elizabeth. Do you know if my Hawvers are part of the Rotterdam-originating Hawvers? I would like to know where you found this information. I'm intrigued! Most, if not all, Hawvers in America seem to stem from one family which arrived in Philadelphia (sailing from Rotterdam) in the mid 1700s, Over years, the family scattered with notable settlings in Maryland, Ohio, New York, Kansas/Missouri, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois/Wisconsin. My branch of the familiy settled in York County, PA, Frederick County, MD, and on to Ohio. My dad has been researching out line--and connections with other lines--for half a century. We have over 10,000 Hawver-related names in the files so far. W
e are looking for opportunities to meet new relatives and share information.
