Harrington was my maternal grandfather's mother's maiden name. Mable Harrington, my great grandmother married my great grandfather Hugh Bobbitt. Her father's name was Ellsworth Harrington. Through research in Census records I have determined that Ellsworth's father's initials are J.M.. I have not spent much time researching this line.
My Harrington line begins with my GGGGrandmother, Sarah Harrington (1823 - 1899). She married Meredith Gossett about 1844 in Hickman Co., Tennessee. She was the daughter of Drury Harrington and Mary Maddox. I have a lot of information on this line, but most of it is not original research; I got it from other people. I haven't researched the Harringtons in a while.
Hi I'm looking for Ellen "Nellie" Harrington born around 1867 in Co. Cork her father was Michael F. as you can see with such common names and very little info it's been very difficult to find the right family. Thank You Karen
Karen,

Unfortunately, Cork is the biggest county in Ireland, and then Harrington is a Cork name, so it's difficult to know where to begin if you don't have a clue as to what area they were in. And then they liked to keep the same names in the family, and it's a nightmare! Have you tried the Griffith Valuation? It was a sort of a census, and was carried out about the time your Nellie was born, so you might find her father on it, it may help a little to narrow things down.

Did they emigrate? If so, when, and to where?
I was born a Harrington.
My father was Denis Harrington (1933-2009)
My grandfather - Edward Harrington (1902-1966)
My g.grandfather - Edmond Harrington (1864-?) born Mitchelstoen, Co. Cork, Ireland
My g.g.grandfather - John Harrington (1838-1911) born Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, Ireland

That's as far as I can get.
Looking for info. about the parents, siblings, cousins, etc. of Michael Harrington, born 9-16-1816 in Cork, Ireland. He & his brother Edward, b. @ 1818, were kidnapped or tricked into working on a trading vessel (The Falda Star). They became "indentured servants", but basically slaves since they couldn't leave the ship for @ 4 yrs. from 1832 or 1833 - 1837. They jumped ship in Mobile Bay, Alabama, United States. Michael settled in Mississippi & Edward in Texas. Michael's my Great Great Grandfather. My Great Uncle researched this story.

Wow that is quite a story. I have a Timothy b. 1824/25 in Cork, probably in Bantry to a son John and Catherine Kennedy Harrington. Timothy immigrated to US via NY and Cobh in 1849. He went by names Henry and Edward in some census'. He had a son named Edward in 1869. He also had sons named James and John. Are these names in your family?

Timothy Harrington born 1824/5 in probably Bantry, Ireland to (probably) John and Catherine Kennedy Harrington. Immigrated to NY in 1849. died in 1896. Was married to Ann (most likely Nancy Barret whom immigrated with him). Had children: John, James, Lavina, Catherine, Edward and Anna.
