Hello Joan, welcome to the group. Not sure how your family might fit in or how far you have traced them so far, but my husband's great grandmother came from Scotland and was called Helen Hair. I have quite a bit of information on the family, and know that there were many Hairs in the area she came from, so if you would like more information please let me know. They originated in a small town in the south east of Scotland in Dumfries. The town is called Sanquhar. Helen's father came from a large family so there are in all probability many descendants. Helen, her youngest sister Elizabeth, her eldest brother John all emigrated to South Africa around 1852. I also know of 2 Hair cousins who emigrated here at a similar time. So in all probability it seems possible that other family members may have left around that time or even prior to that. Let me know if you want to know any more.
