<p>Beginning Sunday January 8, 2012 I will begin a new Chat topic. A nostalgia chat using music to conjure up old memories. Good ones of course. And being January 8th is Elvis Pressley's birthday what better way to start off the new chat than to listen to Elvis tunes and talk about what we remember about him. Any Elvis fans out there please join us. The time is 9 pm eastern in our chat room.</p>

I am receiving some feedback from my most active group about the Sorting of messages. <b><a href="http://www.genealogywise.com/group/mostwantedancestorslostandfound" target="_blank">The Most Wanted! Ancestors Lost and Found</a></b> Group owner has a nice how to use Discussion. After reading that discussion I added a similar discussion on my group.<br />
<br />
It appears that we, Group "owners" have control over the Sorting of the <b>Comment Wall</b>, like most recent first.<br />
<br />
However, I could NOT find a way to have the Discussion Replies sorted Most Recent First. The default is Oldest First.<br />
<br />
I am sure that some would want it that way, but others might want to have Most Recent First.<br />
<br />
Again, this is at the Discussion level and not the Comment Wall.<br />
<br />
The Member has the sorting option for the Discussions but the Owner or Member can not sort the Specific Discussion.<br />
<br />
I may be missing something, if so, please advise.<br />

Thank you Categorising groupstag:www.genealogywise.com,2009-07-25:3463583:Topic:1002342009-07-25T17:55:39.095ZJohn Newmarkhttp://www.genealogywise.com/profile/JohnNewmark
One of my fellow members of the Guild of One-Name Studies has discovered a useful hidden feature which might be of some help with the categorisation of groups. If you fill in the location field on your group page this creates a URL with a link to a category page. If people can get organised we could therefore create catogories for different countries, societies, surnames beginning with various letters of the alphabet, etc We would all have to work together to come up with the appropriate…

If you fill in the location field on your group page this creates a URL with a link to a category page. If people can get organised we could therefore create catogories for different countries, societies, surnames beginning with various letters of the alphabet, etc We would all have to work together to come up with the appropriate category titles. You can see how it could work by looking at these two pages;<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.genealogywise.com/groups/group/listByLocation?location=England">http://www.genealogywise.com/groups/group/listByLocation?location=England</a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.genealogywise.com/groups/group/listByLocation?location=GOONS">http://www.genealogywise.com/groups/group/listByLocation?location=GOONS</a><br />
<br />
The location field only creates one URL and it doesn't seem to be possible to create multiple categories. Also the group categories don't seem to show up in search results unless I've missed somthing.<br />

What do people think? Could this work? CSS discussiontag:www.genealogywise.com,2009-07-24:3463583:Topic:975022009-07-24T21:31:35.804ZJohn Newmarkhttp://www.genealogywise.com/profile/JohnNewmark
In response to Jill --<br />
The first section of the CSS has the full pathname to the image used by the Theme on the ning server. I'm not sure if we are allowed to upload images of our own to use, but perhaps the Ning help tells this.<br />
<br />
Also, I thought it best to get off the Comment Wall with this discussion, so started one just for this topic.<br />
<br />
Best regards!

As we learn what works, and what doesn't, on this platform, this thread is intended to be a place where these lessons, recommendations, and consensual decisions can be collected. There have already been several great suggestions, such as creating separate Discussion Threads for FAQ's and Links. I've also started one for "Favorite Offline Research Sites/Repositories" for the Massachusetts Ancestry group, as a way of collecting info on those historical societies, libraries, etc. that do not yet…

I've also started one for "Favorite Offline Research Sites/Repositories" for the Massachusetts Ancestry group, as a way of collecting info on those historical societies, libraries, etc. that do not yet have an online presence, as well as, hopefully, some indication of the type of records or information available there. Please answer three questions to get this thing started:<br />
<br />
1. What is the most important objective of the group(s) you have created on GenealogyWise?<br />
<br />
2. What do you think is the promise of GenealogyWise that will make it succeed where other social networks have not in bringing genealogists together?<br />
<br />
3. (Dream with me here) What is the single feature you would most like to see as part of GenealogyWise. "It would be cool if we could . . . "
