I am looking for the Tahyi family.  Gus (Kost) Tahyi came to the United states from either Greece or Turkey in the 1920.  I have several receipts where he sent money home and his WWI draft registration.   However, the problem being that at times he sent things to Greece and at others he sent them to Turkey.  He did the same with his war information.  In his obituary he is listed as the child of Gus Tahyi and Samella Gust but I have no confirmation of this.  I am at this point not sure where to start as he also uses various forms of the last name as Taghi, Petredes,
I would appreciate any help

I had the same concern about the Turkey/Greece.  My family was Greek, but due to the war, many places that were once owned by Greece became Turkey.  Gus/John is the Americanized name for Ioannis. I looked up both of the surnames that you mentioned, and neither one is listed with that exact spelling on the ellisisland.org site, but there are many alternate spellings that may be helpful. Let me know if this helps, and I will pass on some things that helped me once I found my people on that site.  Ancestry is another great resource.
Thanks Stacey.  It does help.  I have been through the Ellis Island site and tried every various spelling I could think of but nothing.  I am currently trying to search through sites from Greece to see if anything pops.  Many records have been destroyed because of the war making searching difficult.
I know exactly what you're going through.  If you have the draft card, maybe it has his parents name and place of residency/birth.  I have actually resorted to calling/emailing people with the same last name.  I have not hit the jackpot, but I've learned a lot about the different regions/prefectures associated with the surname.  Ancestry.com is where I found all of my draft cards, registration cards, and census reports.  I looked him up, Gus J./ Kost Tahyi on ancestry, and there are several documents/pictures listed for him.  When I looked up my g.father's census reports, I was able to find his host family and contact them.  Best of luck!
