I am originally from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. My Father was Stanley Graves and my Mother was Hilda Waddingham.

I can trace my Graves ancestors back to Betsy Graves born 1830 in Maine. She married Joseph Pooler 15 Sep 1849 in Skowegan, maine and is buried in the Pooler grave yard in Skowhegan. Betsy and William Graves are also buried there and may be her parents but I have no proof, no birth certificate, no christening or baptism, and the parents are not IDed on the marriage.

My Ancestor is Verlinda Graves-and when I see the name Verlinda-they are usually kin.
Verlinda was born abt 1618 Cheshire England and died 13 Julk 1675 Manon of Avon, Charles, Md.
She married William Stone-who became the Gov of Md. born 1603 Northampshire, Somerset, England-21 Dec 1660 Avon on Nanjamoy, Charles Md.

Verlinda was the child of Thomas Graves-2nd Gov.-Capt- Accomac Plantation Colony born 1575 Lomborne Eng-1635 Gloucester, Va & Katherine Crenshaw
son of Thomas Graves and Joan Blagrove- Ms. Gerry Hill-Albany Ga

My Graves line has been one of my hardest lines to figure out. I can go back to Truman Graves in Tioga Co. PA, and I "think" his father may be Elisha Graves but I haven't been able to document it yet.

I am descended from Joseph Graves and Catherine Stringfellow of Stafford County, Virginia through their daughter Mary Josephine Graves. The Graves Family Association website has her name mistakenly listed as Mary Jane Graves. She came to Texas with her son James Williamson Monroe. His brother, Robert Wilson Monroe, apparently also came with them, as he was my great grandfather.

Hi Kenneth,

Not sure if you remember me, but back in 2004 we emailed back and forth about the Graves Family Association. You helped me a lot as I was beginning to receive my education in genealogy. Now I have a professional learning certificate in genealogical studies from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies and an A.A. degree in genealogical studies from Akamai University. Thank you again for your help back then and for being apart of this group. You are a terrific asset to this group.

If you want to learn more about your part of the Graves family, you can get help from the Graves Family Association at http://www.gravesfa.org. If you can't find your Graves genealogy there, I can help you find it, or we can add it if it's not there.
