Thanks Janet! We definitely welcome prayers! I tell you, the support I've received from the GeneaCommunity has been phenomenal!

So glad too you like the idea of a GRD Meet-up! Any suggestions on a possible location? We could always rotate locales (to make it fair for everyone) or settle on a spot that works!

So exciting... let's look for mid-SEPTEMBER to allow time for planning & coordinating. How's that sound?

Hi Lucky, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. I will keep you, her and your family in my prayers.

Re: Georgia Root Diggers Meet-Up is a great idea...When? Where?

Hey San! I think so too! Would love to connect to ALL the Root Diggers in the area - both ALABAMA & GEORGIA!:-)

Maybe I'll work to coordinate a Meet-Up for next month?

Hi Jennifer! I hope this helps! I took a peek at the Census records for Bibb County. Here's what I found:

Assuming that Willis T. HANCOCK was born in 1831 BIBB Co. Georgia

1840 BIBB Co. Census
Jessee Hancock - Head of Family
1 - 5 to 9 yrs. male (could be Willis if birth date was correct)
1 - 10 to 15 yrs. male
1 - 30 to 40 yrs. male (Jessee Hancock)
2 - 5 to 10 yrs. female
1 - 10 to 15 yrs. female
1 - 40 to 50 yrs. female (could be Margaret Hancock)

1850 BIBB Co. Census
Jesse Hancock - 45
Margaret Hancock - 49
William Hancop - 23 (could be Willis; note the misspelling in the last name too!)
James Hancop - 19
Sarah Hancop - 16

Note - there are no WILLIS Hancock's in Bibb County in 1850 (when he would have been 19-20 yrs. old). There are 2 WILLIAMS - one that's represented above & the other 12 yrs. old, which is too young to be your Willis.

Do any of these names sound familiar? Do you know of any siblings for Willis T?

Good Luck!:-)

Cheers Georgia Root Diggers!

Forgive my recent absence, I've been away tending to my Mom who is battling Alzheimer's Disease. It's been a rough month, but thank God, Mom is home and we are blessed to have this time with her.

I am so thrilled to see all the new GRD Members & glad to see everyones research pressing forward.

If you have any thoughts or ideas about how we as a group can "synergize", please let me know. We want this forum to produce RESULTS, right?!

I was thinking that it would be super-cool for any Georgia based researchers to gather for a monthly "Meet-Up" gathering. What do you think?

I'll be catching up on posts & poking around GW for awhile! All ideas welcome!:-)

I could REALLy use some help with these 2 Georgians.

Willis T. Hancock was born 15 May 1831 in Georgia and died 8 Aug 1909 iin Bibb County, Georgia. I think his mother was Jane Jones. Willis married Julia Johnson. I would love to know who exactly his parents were and where there from. ANY informaiton is greatly appreciated !

My GGGrandmother, Kate Ida Ellis' father, Whit Ellis is a complete mestery. Granny Kate was born 10 Jan 1879 in Crisp County/Dooly County Georgia. I know she had a sisther names Minnie "Millie" Ellis that was born 8 Nov 1882 in Dooly COunty, Georgia. I would LOVE to know more abour Whit Ellis. I've been told he was a teacher, but I've found no proof. Any help, Greatly appreciated !

Hey all,

The GA Death Certificates now include the years 1928-1930 but are not indexed. To find the certificate you will need to know the dc file number. To do that you first search the indexes (under record type) for 1928, 1929 and 1930 listed by first letter of surname and locate the dc file numbers. Then go back and this time search the digitized certificates under file type.
