I would like to propose the idea of a Genealogywise History Project. Basically we would use our genealogy skills to try and solve an historical mystery. Perhaps some well-known American historical figure's unkown ancestry. Members living in a specific area could check local records and report back their findings to the Group dedicated to this project. Maybe some small rewards could be set up for people that find new and relavant documents. I've noticed that sometimes historians overlook some of the nitty-gritty stuff that genealogists do. Projects like this could help hone our skills and improve our historical knowledge of whoever we are researching. If there is a large enough interest in my idea and Genealogywise is willing to endorse it, I'll post my ideas for a first project.
