Phillip, if you check out the resources I've noted in my "GAYs of the Southern Tidewater..." thread above, it should give you some idea of where you should be looking. Many serious researchers of these lines have tested at the GAY DNA project (to which I've posted a link above), and they have supplied their pedigrees as well.

Cindy, I finally saw your response to my comments. Someone sent me an Ancestry family tree that takes my Gay line back to the early 1700s in North Carolina. After all the comments I have heard about the accuracy of Ancestry listings, I am trying to verify whether the names listed are indeed related to me. Phillip.

hi phillip, I did a check and so far your Georgia GAY line does not connect with mine - have you made any head way going farther than your GGrandfather?

My interest is in the Gay family of Elmore County, Alabama. My grandfather was Leonard Sloan Gay who was born in born in Columbus, Georgia in 1873 and moved with his family to Alabama not long after that. He married my grandmother Elizabeth Church in 1896. Leonard's parents were William F. Gay and Josephine Johnson, also born in Georgia. I want to find out the ancestry of this particular Gay family taking it as far back as possible. Thank you, Phillip
