My Garrisons appear to be from West Va. ( of course the 1861 split came when my ancestors were there so...) I'm just going to go down my main line I do have info on some of the children. Elza Garrison @1818-bef 1870.  Elza m/ Rosannah Edgell b1820.  They had 5 children, Rodney Selden Garrison who had children 1841-1934, Sarah E. Garrison 1845-1930 and had children.  Charles H. Garrison , Lavenda Garrison  and my line Susan Garrison @1850-1888.  Susan married my brick wall Dennis S. Slagle 14 Nov 1872 in Washington co, Ohio.  They had 3 children.  I can fill out or go further down if anyone wants me too.  Happy Hunting

Just joined GenealogyWise. Notice comments on Garrison Surname are very old, 2010?. Is anyone still active? Am trying to identify parents of James Barrett Garrison, b.1827, Stafford County, VA. Uncle was John Rowzee Garrison. Believe mother named Sarah (maiden name unknown, b.1803) Believe father is James Garrison, brothers John Rowzee, Roy A.M, and Moses (1808, twin to James)

I am researching my great great grandfather's line, James Benjamin Garrison. The only information I have at this point in time is that he was born 12 February 1854 in Indiana, married Eva Kansas Kirkendall on 24 February 1876 in Hamilton County, Indiana and he passed away 10 March 1936. James & Eva's children were: Dove, Stella (my great grandmother), Ora James and Zulia Justin.

You might want to check out the Garrison Compass website for questions regarding DNA testing. It's also a good site for disentangling the different colonial Gerritsen/Garrison lines. Only male DNA tests can tell us anything, and as my surname isn't Garrison, I haven't done a DNA test.

I am researching "van Vorst" lineage that sprung a Garrison line. Son of Gerrit is Gerritszo(e)n which became Garreson/Garrison.

Hello! I am a descendant of Garrisons who populated Stafford County, Virginia from at least the late 1700's. Garrisonville - located near Stafford County Courthouse - was the locale in which my gggg grandfather, Moses Garrison, and his father John Garrison - my 5g grandfather. From my research into the family tree, John served in the Virginia Militia and was recorded as participating in the siege of Yorktown; Moses was listed as on the rolls of veterans of the War of 1812.

Benjamin Franklin Garrison was in the Civil War from MO. He's buried in Kansas. He came to California for a 2nd medical opinion. He's my ancestor. He married Sarah Catherine Hines.

To fill out the group so far, I'm descended from Valentine "Volly" Garrison, born about 1788 in Albemarle County, VA, migrated to Adair County, KY by the 1830's, probably died there after 1870 (last census found). His "missing" daughter Frances Adeline was my great-great-grandmother. I say "missing" because I've never found her listed in any genealogies; I was able to figure out that she belonged in the family primarily by clues in her obituary about surviving sisters!
