Comment by Carol Ann Harvey on January 23, 2011 at 3:13pm I saw that this group was Featherstone, Featherston and all the haughs:) As typing isn't everyone's forte, haugh was misleading to me. Thanks for the meaning of the word. cheers and happy researching.
Comment by William Paul Featherstone on January 23, 2011 at 6:48am Featherstonhaugh and the name Haugh I don't think are related.
Haugh is a term meaning side of a valley, there are lots of place names ending Haugh in the Tyne valley.
Comment by Carol Ann Harvey on January 23, 2011 at 5:28am Have just found your group and joined because my paternal grandfather was Robert Dewart and he married Barbara Haugh in Sunderland Durham UK. Their marriage record reads as Dwert. I believe that the Haughs are a large family from my contact experience but I've yet to discover anyone connected to my Barbara.
