Microsoft has a section for genealogy templates. Not much for Excel, but...

Thanks Wendy, I'm only about 5 miles from Woolmer Green where Herts FHS meet, but as I have no known Herts ancestors I'm not a member & don't go to meetings. I could go because our local (Stevenage) FHS is afilliated, but meetings are always on Saturdays when I am expected to ditch Family History & spend quality time with my husband. He's not a fan unfortunately.

Herts FHS has a computer group which meets monthly - I haven't looked up how far away you are from their meeting venue, but their meetings might be helpful. http://www.hertsfhs.org.uk/hfphs43.html Certainly at Oxfordshire FHS we have computer help and chat at our meetings. I use Excel a lot for my family history, and have several large databases with multiple sheets. But I'm sure I do a lot of things the long way round, and would love some tips to get more out of the programme.
I did read the document in the GOONS journal & have used it to make a Free BMD spreadsheet, but like a lot of GOONS articles I found some of it hard to follow, & it mentioned a lot of things like Firefox which I had never heard of, never used before & didn't know what they were for. Perhaps someone could explain.

As it happens there is an article in the Journal of One-Name Studies Vol 10 issue 3 July-Sept 2009 entitled Computing for beginers - spreadsheets which covers Excel. See www.one-name.org. The Journal is available in some libraries.

I have never used Excel for any genealogical work, but would love to know what you use it for? Might help me reduce my huge files of paper!!
