I have very little information about this part of my family. But I am looking for Ellis history. In the Texas County,Missouri area, around 1892.

Hi all, I am the administrator of the Ellis Surname DNA Project. I just wanted to let you all know that the dna testing company that the project uses, FTDNA, is having a sale that ends at the end of the year. If anyone was thinking about having DNA testing done to help you in your genealogy now is the time to do it.  Email me for details (dawnsellis@earthlink.net). (I am not employed by or any way affiliated with FTDNA). Happy hunting.

I am of the Jasper County, GA Ellis family which, according to oral family history came from somewhere in the east, maybe New England. The mists of time shroud everything and my grandmother never could really get anywhere despite spending lots of time on it. I have a Joshua Ellis ancestor who may have been born in the mid 1700s and was married to an Abigail Knowles, whose father was named Richard.

BTW, Krista, I hope you are feeling much better now. Bronchitis can be a real bear. Stay warm up there!

Hi Sharon, My apologies for just now getting back to you. After we corresponded back in late October, I caught a cold that turned into bronchitis and oh, what fun. I'll spare you the gory details. I'm back up and running and will get the answers to you about Joshua, Moses and email you photos of headstones if you wish. My email address is jarg@metrocast.net. You're welcome to email me your address and I'll send you the photos, etc., I have. (If you want them, of course.)
Thanks, Krista

Krista, Thank you so much! You have no idea how happy I am! I don't live near NH right now, but my parents periodically go up there from FL, and my mother was saying that the next time they go, she wants to go to the Alton Cemetery. She has a feeling that they would find many more of the Rollins and Ellis ancestors there. I myself have been to the Gilmanton Iron Works cemetery. I didn't have time to go to the Gilmanton or Alton cemetery - this was back in 2007.

I still don't know if Joshua is the actual father of Moses. If he had any brothers, one of them could be Moses' father. But this is re-opening a line for me that had left me a bit discouraged.

How wonderful that you have located two Ellis cemeteries! I will pass this info on to my parents. Anything you could find or know about from the cemetery would be very much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Sharon

Sharon, yes it is the same Joshua Ellis. I can help you with this as I live in Alton and have located one of the Ellis family cemeteries and know where the second one is located (but haven't made it there yet.)
