NEW DISCUSSION
VANOVERS  IN  AMERICA

and
The Cornelius Connections

The Vanovers' too, have indubitably carved out their place in America's history as well as Europe leaving their name and story behind.

The footprints of each individual leaving a special trail to follow. Sometimes easy to track and
often times not so easy to track and unravel as tracks seem to cross over one another sometimes!
Most of us have ending up on such a trail! So hopefully by starting this particular discussion within the DUTCH GENEALOGY Group some Vanover details can become more refined for those of us on the Vanover trail.

The Vanover surname, like many other Dutch
surnames, underwent a series of different spellings, before the present spelling of the name was used,

The Vanovers have a marvelous ancestry that they can be very proud of. Our family has been in America for more than 300 years. The earliest members of the family settled in what is now Flatbush, Kings County, Long Island, New York, before 1685. From there, they migrated to New Jersey.

The colonial ancestry of the Vanover Family includes several families of Dutch origin. Among these are the families of Cornelys Van Hovgem (the earliest proven ancestor of the Vanover Family), Jan Hendricksen Steelman, Jan Adriaenszen Van Sardam and his
wife Styntje Jans Van Nimmegen, Jan Cornelis Buys (alias Jan Damen) and his wife Willemtje Thyssen, Cornelius Corneliszen Bogaert and his wife Dirkje. A. Cornelys Van Hovgem of Midwout Flatbush3. Kings County, Long Island, New York.

The earliest proven ancestor of the Vanover Family is Cornelys van hovgem (as he signed

his name). He and his wife, Maria Winterslick, and at least three children, including
Cornelys, the younger, migrated to New York before 14 April 1685.

So now I'll start this 'new discussion' on the DUTCH GENEALOGY group by throwing out  info on my first connection from my Paternal Vanover line.

I encourage any who have a connection with interest in this family line to please do the same. Direct us to your trees if available. Lets get acquainted here and share our woes and brick walls in our research and give one another a hand wherever possible!

I have a public tree ( a continual work in the refining process) at Ancestry .com named:
