I just joined the Dutch Group. I am looking for information on Bogart/Bogert families who lived in Brooklyn, NY, from the 1600s and then moved to Bergen County, NJ by the 1750s. My 4th great-grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War in a Bergen County militia. I am looking for information going back in time with reliable and valid sources. Thank you.

I have just started a blog that is going to deal with early settlers on Manhattan Island. I will be including a vast amount of information not only of interest to the genealogist but for the early New York historian as well.

Is there anyone who can either translate a couple of images from the Civil Registers off of FamilySearch for me? I believe I've finally found my great-great grandfather's birth registration but do not know Dutch and am having a hard time reading the record. I had some german in high school and can pick out a couple of things to know what they mean but would love to have a transcribed translated copy of the images.

Goedemiddag!

I have a Wersel/Versel relative who traveled from Utrecht to Brazil at least twice in the 1840s. I have several documents (Dutch & Brazilian) which confirm this, but I'm researching more deeply and am wondering if there are specific resources that might help me? I've located records on Genliaus, a bit on Stadsarchief Amsterdam and Utrecht Archief, but am looking for either travel records to/from Brazil or (wishful thinking) Brazilian records. I've located records on Genliaus, a bit on Stadsarchief Amsterdam and Utrecht Archief, but am looking for either travel records to/from Brazil or (wishful thinking) Brazilian records. Family history is that they (perhaps more than one went there) went to make fine furniture for Don Pedro II; the family eventually had a furniture manufacturing business in Cincinnati, OH from the late 1800s to before WWII (not sure why it went out of biz; haven't gotten that far just yet).

So, Utrecht to Brazil...any suggestions? Thank you so much for any information you can provide! Bedankt!
DAMEN linetag:www.genealogywise.com,2012-02-20:3463583:Topic:4303122012-02-20T15:55:14.976ZNancy B.http://www.genealogywise.com/profile/NancyB

I have been following a small group of Protestants in the Eindhoven area of Noord Brabant for the years from 1700 through 1850, attempting to get accounts of my ancestors from that area. I am using a site called "Regionaal Historisch Centrum Eindhoeven" (which is MUCH easier for me to follow, now that I've found their English interface). Currently I'm exploring the 216 names listed in the baptismal records from all the cities and towns in this area and have only reached the year 1712. I know…
I have been following a small group of Protestants in the Eindhoven area of Noord Brabant for the years from 1700 through 1850, attempting to get accounts of my ancestors from that area. I am using a site called "Regionaal Historisch Centrum Eindhoeven" (which is MUCH easier for me to follow, now that I've found their English interface). Currently I'm exploring the 216 names listed in the baptismal records from all the cities and towns in this area and have only reached the year 1712. I know that in the more recent years I'll be able to see scans of some of these records, but this far back I'm dealing only with abstracts. (I believe I can order photos or transcriptions of these early records, but since I haven't done enough research yet, i don't wish to spend money on the wrong party of that name.)

I am finding names like Johannes Johannes Michael or Maria Michael Leenders which is making me wonder if there is a pattern of Given Name, Patronymic, and Last names in certain places in this time period. J. J. Michael is a witness, so I have no other relationship to go by. Maria Michael Leenders is the mother; her child and the child's father both carry the surname Geeve.

Knowing about naming patterns may help me separate my immediate lines, along with the siblings of each generation, from other people with the same or similar names. I know that I will find both "Lambert" and "Lambertus" Micheal for the same person. I know also that it is recurring name among these people.

As I noted in the beginning. This is a small group of protestants among a Catholic population; there is much intermarriage among them, with the attending overlap of names. Any help I can get will be appreciated.
