About DOPL

Point Lookout was a genocidal, ethnic cleansing, concentration camp filled with federal atrocities that housed over 52,000 Southerners, with a death count of over 14,000. To learn more about the camp and its history, please visit the DOPL website.

William J. Hagin of Richmond Hill, GA is President of the Descendants of Pt. Lookout Prisoner of War Organization. He and his wife, Lori, are defenders of our Southern Heritage, not backing down in the face of controversy . Our organization is an historical, patriotic, educational, memorial, unreconstructed, unapologetic, heritage association that is not affiliated with any other organization. Its purpose is to pay homage to Confederate ancestors: military and civilian, men and women, of all races who were POWs at Point Lookout, Maryland 1863-1865.

Comment by Shae on July 18, 2009 at 3:56pm: I had one ancestor, my paternal Great-Great-Grandfather John Worden, who was a guard at Point Lookout while another ancestor, my maternal Great-Great-Great-Grandfather David M Tannehill, was imprisoned there. He died a prisoner and is buried there in the mass grave.

Comment by Stacye Mehard on July 18, 2009 at 2:10pm: My GreatGreatGrandfather, Joshua Buskey Lockwood of Princess Anne County, Virginia was imprisoned @ Point Lookout the last year of the war and was released upon giving oath in 1865.
