Thanks for the pointing me to the info on FamilySearch!

Mikkel Vattrup Sorensen was born in Edslev and moved to Adslev when he was 6-8.  He was on Samso for bit.  After being in the US for several years he went back to Denmark, married (in Adslev) and had children, then back to the US.  He had a passion for Folklore.  His idol was Evald Tang Kristensen.  In this passage I believe he is talking about why he did not go to a University.  I would like to better understand what he was trying to obtain and what was required at that time to go to a university.  I think this may have had a big impact on his ultimate decision to leave Denmark and come to the US.  He wrote:

Da jeg var 17-18 Aar, vilde jeg gerne have været paa Højskole, men kom der ikke. Jeg vilde nemlig søge Arritsraadet om Tilskud, og det blev mig fortalt, at for at komme i Betragtning, maatte jeg skaffe en Attest fra Sogneraadets Formand. Denne, der boede i en anden By, gav mig den Besked, at han kendte mig ikke. Saa gik jeg til Præsten, men med samme Resultat.

Yes, please go ahead and post it. There are a few native speakers that hange out here. If it is manuscript you can attach an image. If you have converted it to text, you can post both a manuscript image and your text transcription.

Hello All!  I just joined the site a few days ago but can already tell this forum is full of wonderful and helpful people.  My husband's paternal side is from Denmark.  Since starting my research I have found I can't learn enough about Denmark and his family.  So interesting!  Right now I am researching my husband's great - great grandfather Mikkel Sorensen (1863-1949).  He was born in Denmark and died in the US.  I recently acquired a ton of ancestry information from my husband's grandfathers estate.  Almost all of it is written in Danish.  There is one paragraph I am having a bit of trouble translating and understanding.  Is there someone that can help translate and explain what Mikkel might be talking about if I post it?  Thank you in advance for any assistance.

HI Denise.  It has been my experience that they are not living in the same house and are not usually related.

Can someone please tell me, on the danish census when there is a list of numerous names and families, do they actually live in same house and are they usually related?

Denise:  Looked up Ole Hansen of Naesbjerg and his parents are: Hans Christian Pedersen born in 1796 and Kirsten Marie Jorgensdatter born in 1804.  They were married in Naesbjerg on 6 May 1830.  Hans had been married before and is listed as a shoemaker.  Still there in 1860 on census where Ole is confirmed.  Didn't have time to look for marriage of Ole to Margrethe Kirstine Rasmussen but it may be there....will check later.
