Hi Terri!

Welcome! There seems to be a lot of descendants of David Demarest & Marie Sohier.I'm glad you found us here too!

I am very happy to find this group as I have been researching this branch of my family lately! I have information that shows David Demarest and Marie Sohier as my 10th great grandparents! So happy to join many of my cousins with our research. What an inspiring legacy left by this wonderful family!

Hi Brady!

Have you seen Shar Pearce's post of July 21st? Do any of those names sound familiar to you?

Hi Brady,

Do you have any sort of paper trail connection to the large Demarest family that descends from David desMarets and Marie Sohier and expanded so well from NY and NJ?

Hi Shar,

Welcome to the group! It's a small genealogy world with your Sussex County connections. We share some lines, and when I checked your profile, I saw that you also have lines that married into some of mine. One ggg grand-aunt married a Van Ness, and while most of these connections are on my father's side of the family, 2 relatives on my mother's side married Rutan men. I don't know their genealogies, but I think they must be from the same Rutan family. The 2 Rutan men married into one of my Rochester, NY families. I know that there was a Rutan farmstead maintained as a museum or part of one in Sussex County. I think it was part of Waterloo Village, which may not be staffed as fully as it was a few years ago, but I hope that it is still active.

Kirsten
