The Sussex County Genealogical Society in Delaware will present their 2012 conference, Tracking Your Ancestors II, on Saturday April 28, 2012.  Rebecca Whitman Koford and Chuck Mason are returning by popular demand with new topics.  Nationally known Michael Hait and other well-known genealogical speakers will share their genealogical expertise as well..  The Conference will cover topics such as the Pitfalls & Pratfalls in Genealogy, Men of the Same Name, Land Platting, Online Genealogy, Beyond Ancestry and Family Search, and Military research.  The Delaware Public Archives, the Maryland State Archives Online, and Colonial Families of Delmarva will also be represented.

One of the DE families I've  been interested in is that of Peter Jochimsson (Yocum) who I think died in 1654, New Amesterdam.  His daughter Elizabeth Jochimsson (Yocum) (1654-1692) married John Ogle, who lived from 1649-1683.  Please  email me willardsaunders@gmail.concerning this union.

I attended the SCGS Conference this past Saturday.  The Conference was great!  It's always fun to get together with people interested in genealogy and learning new things about our hobby.  It was also nice to meet fellow genealogywiser Sally Nelson.

If you missed our Conference you missed a good event.  Over 90 people came and learned about the various stages of doing genealogy--not just in Delaware or Sussex County.  I would advise you to go to the next Conference near you if you have a chance.  It was a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow genealogists as well.  (Hi, Victor!).

SUSSEX COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY SPONSORS GENEALOGICAL CONFERENCE

The Sussex County Genealogical Society in Delaware will hold a one-day conference, “Tracking Your Ancestors” on April 30, 2011. Featured speakers Julia Coldren-Walker, Rebecca Koford, Charles Mason and others will cover topics such as Beginning Genealogy, Church Records, Identifying Photographs, Researching Your Home’s History, Brick Walls, and Methodology. A special feature will be individual consultations by John Lyon, John Polk, and Mike Hitch who will use their land platting expertise to help researchers find their colonial ancestral lands on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Peggy, Thank you so much for the information that you provided. Probably my John W. Egner is a sibling of Jacob's. I am hoping to find the opportunity to delve a little deeper into DE's records to find that elusive connection. Are most of the records located in Wilmington? I've been away from genealogy for close to 10 years and it's like starting all over! Again thanks for your info!

Jean, I am in the process of completing a series of books, "Orphan Court Proceedings of New Castle County, Delaware". I checked my book No.8 1822-1827 (not yet printed) and found.....16 Jul 1827. The petition of Jacob Egner and Margaret his wife shows that Roger Williams late of Pencader Hnd died intestate being owner of a tract of land situate in the hnd afsd bounded by lands of James Short, Samuel Howell, and others cont 223a. Roger Williams left to survive him a widow named Sarah, since dec’d and ten children to wit, Mary; Catherine who was the wife of William Biddle and is now dec’d, leaving a minor child to survive her, the said William being still living; David; Sarah; Hannah; Ann who was the wife of William Eliason and is now dec’d leaving an infant child to survive her, the said William having also died; Margaret now the wife of Jacob Egner; Abel; Enoch; and Jane Williams. The said Mary, David, and Sarah are since dec’d intestate and without issue; and Enoch, Abel, and Hannah do not reside in New Castle Co The afsd real estate of Roger Williams, dec’d was divided and appraised upon the petition of Abel Williams at the Aug term 1822 and the Apr term 1823 whereupon the Abel Williams being entitled to one seventh part of the intestate’s real estate accepted that part marked A cont 93a valued at $977.14. In reference to the remaining division of said real estate, no election was made and the acceptance thereof declined. The remaining division marked B cont 130a valued at $1302.84 belongs to the other children of the said intestate and the infant child of Ann who since the division and return afsd has departed this life, making the share of each child in said allotment one sixth part thereof viz, to Abel Williams, the assignee of William Biddle and Catherine his wife one sixth part; to Hannah Williams one sixth part; to the infant child of Ann one sixth part; to Margaret now the wife of Jacob Egner one sixth part; to Jane Williams now a minor one sixth part; and to Enoch Williams one sixth part. Since the return of the division and valuation of the afsd real estate and the acceptance of one division by Abel Williams as afsd the said Abel Williams has purchased the share of William Biddle and Catherine his wife in the said land and premises. Your petitioners being desirous of effecting a sale of the remaining allotment of the intestate’s real estate, which according the return of the freeholders will not admit of a division and has not been accepted, pray the Court to order all the heirs interested in the said real estate to come into Court and accept or refuse the remaining division marked B cont 130a at the valuation thereof. It is ordered that Enoch Williams, the second son of Roger Williams, dec’d; Abel Williams, assignee of William Biddle and Catherine his wife, which said Catherine is the eldest dau of Roger Williams; and Hannah Williams, the second dau of Roger Williams (and which said Enoch, Abel, and Hannah do not reside in New Castle Co), be and appear here in Court on 25 Feb next and claim the preference due to them of accepting a portion of the real estate late of Roger Williams marked B cont 130a appraised to $1302.84 as they are entitled to claim. It is ordered that a copy of this rule be published in the Cincinnati Gazette in the state of Ohio. Hope this might provide some clues.

Searching (John W.) Eagner or (John W.) Egner born in New Castle, DE c. 1817 and moved to Cecil CO, MD before 1840. Married to Matilda Gregg (??). Trying to break through a brick wall and find his parents.
