Comment by Connie Underwood on August 22, 2011 at 12:11pm Hello
The patriot ( there are several) are all on my fathers side. I have access to my adoption records but the one's I have gotten thus far only list his age and family history. The birthcert lists as un-named. I was born in 1960 so rarely is there a mans name on the birth Cert. I am going to keep requesting info from several other agencies that were involved in my adoption to get info and hopefully one will list his name. My birthmother is more than willing to do a letter for me. so that is not a problem. Hope that this was helpful.

Comment by Cecile Hoffman Ellis on August 21, 2011 at 8:04am Thank you Betty, I will print out a copy and send it in with the rest of my documents. Very excited about joining the Thomas Shelton Chapter in Gonzales, Texas. My great grandmother was a member of DAR in the Jane Douglas Chapter of Dallas. Therefore, my documentation has been fairly simple and should be ready to mail into the chapter Registrar this week. Looking forward to the Luncheon next month.
Comment by Betty Christy on August 21, 2011 at 7:03am Cecile, find your grandfather on the 1900 census. That census asks for month and year you were born. It can be used for the birth information on a DAR application.

Comment by TCallahan on August 20, 2011 at 7:25pm Connie, I know this is a stupid question, but is the patriot ancestor you're trying to join with on your father's side? I am wondering if you need to go through all of this if your ancestor is on your mother's side, and she's willing to write a letter for you.
Also, can your mother petition the state to release your adoption records, since she's the only surviving parent?
Comment by Julia Mitchel on August 20, 2011 at 7:07pm Connie, is there any way you can get the hospital records. They probably have them in an archive somewhere and will probably give you grief, but give it a try.
What about any letter your mother may have from your father, with an early date on it.
If you do not have primary evidence you sometimes have to put together a reasonable hypothesis, as Elizabeth Shown Mills said in the last seminar I took of hers.

In my state they did not list the name of the father on the birthcertificate but I am sure somewhere in the records his name is listed due to his paying half the Dr and Hospital bill, as well as the family info but no names. I have met with my dad's cousins and we compaired the info I was given and it matches exactly so there is no doubt in their minds. I am sure my birthmom would be willing to do a letter so I can always include it with the info I get from the State. thank you for you help
