Great emigration from Ireland occurred during the mid 1800’s. I hope those who research the Cruise/Cruse, etc. surname will post to the GW group what they know about their family lines. I’ll post here some of the notes I’ve made as I studied a few of the Cruise families of Ireland; hope others will, too.
Did you know that those with Irish roots comprise the largest DNA testing group? See Emily Doolin Aulicino’s post at
http://bit.ly/n1Fbt . If you are a male Cruise, or know of one, do encourage them to order a DNA kit through one of the Cruise DNA projects at FTDNA. If you’ve already had your DNA tested …
(1) Become a member of all the Cruise projects at FTDNA _and_, if you know/believe you have Irish roots, join the Irish FTDNA project, too (see Emily’s post). As well, you’ll want to upload any FTDNA results to YSearch.
(2) Post a message, perhaps as a discussion topic here on the Cruise GW group. Consider including a reference to your FTDNA kit number. Include what you believe to be the relevant family facts and what you’ve been able to prove/what you haven’t been able to prove.
Beyond DNA, we need family stories and family facts, too. Do share your family! Even if you have solved your quest, the stories and facts you share will, no doubt, benefit those who are still seeking answers.
Record search! I’ve studied thousands of census, death records, newspaper archives, ship list’s etc. for the Cruise surname. I’m sure others have as well. While many of us post information about the families when we make a connection, consider also posting a notice about some of the families to whom you didn’t connect. I’ll do the same.
GenealogyWise does “feel” a little different than some of the other genealogy sites. It looks like the folks at FamilyLink are trying to bring together a host of different technologies. As they work out the quirks, maybe with a little help from all of us, we will be able to expand our understanding of the Cruise families of Ireland.
Thanks. --GJ
