I would really appreciate some help if possible. I have been doing research on my own for about 8 months now. I am looking to find the place of birth for my husbands great grandfather. I have quite a bit of info but have hit a wall with the location. This is the info I already have:
Great Grandad:
Patrick J. Sullivan DOB 2/27/1861 Co. Cork
He arrived in Boston on 5/1/1883. The only ship I can find out of Ireland, Queenstown, that year to Boston is the Catalonia which stopped in Liverpool as well.
He was Naturalized 9/6/1890. He married Annie Mulcahey in 1895 and died in Portland Maine October of 1899.
His parents were Jeremiah Sullivan and Margaret Sullivan. I know this is a lot to ask for help but I am at a dead end and would REALLY love to get this done for my husband and his family. Please feel free to email me if you have any ideas or help.
Thanks a Ton!!!!

Does anybody have Cahalane ancestry from the Skibb area? If so, I'm looking for a Bridget (Biddy) Cahalane, married to Michael Hurley of Coolnagrane, had sons:

John, bap. 23-Feb-1839, d. 1-Apr-1908 (my great-grandfather)
Patrick, bap. 2-Mar-1841 (not positive about this one)
Daniel, bap. 31-May-1843
Michael, bap. 15-Jan-1849

My family doesn't know anything about Bridget. I am guessing she came out of Kilmacabea civil parish. If you know anything about Skibbereen Cahalanes please let me know!

Looking for descendants of Morty Hourihane of Clohane, sons Morty, Owen(Eugene), Tim, and John. That is what I think their family relationship is.

The are in the Caheragh Tithe Applotment (1827).

I am descended from Owen and I have a family tree chart.

They spread around in that same area. I am aggregating data at Shared Tree.

I am interested in hearing from anyone related to the Cork Thompsons or Connells. I have traced my ancestors back to Cork in the mid 1800s. The earliest marriage I have is Nicholas Thompson to Mary Connell. Most of their children were born in Ballyclough.

I am looking for a County Cork connection to my 4th great-grandfather, Jeremiah O'Bryon, he was born abt 1757 according to his grave stone he immigrated to New York probably just after the American revolution. The first record of him being in New York isfrom The Kaatsban Church Records Vol. lll Kingston Library, Kingston,NY, it is the record of Jeremiah and his wife Margaret McDarmey christening thier daughter Margaret in 1786. Family lore, which I know is not always reliable, says he came from Co. Cork .

I have started putting my research notes into Shared Tree, as there are many more records in the notes with no obvious relationship to my family than I have actual family records.

Here is Grandmom's side. They are from Colomane East, technically in the Skibbereen district but really by Bantry:

Daniel "Danny Larr?" Collins - Mary Mahoney m. ? (gggparents)
children:
Mary, bap 1-Jan-1852
Diana, bap. 5-Jun-1854
Jeremiah ("William"), bap. 20-Jul-1856
Margaret, bap. 4-Jul-1858
Denis "Denny Larr" bap. 1860 (ggdad)
Johanna (Hannah) bap. 10-Jan-1862
Daniel, bap. 15-Sep-1865
James, bap 12-Dec-1866

Denis shows up in Colomane East in the 1901 census with his first wife Kate, sister Hannah, mother Mary. He married my ggmother Ellen Hurley in 1904.

Will post this just in case somebody else happens to be connected. They are from the Drimoleague-Skibbereen area:

Michael Collins - Ellen Driscoll, 28-Feb-1854 (gggparents)
children:
Johanna, bap. 19-May-1856
Humphrey Michael, bap. 29-Jan-1858, d. 10-Jul-1910 (ggdad)
Catherine, bap. 15-Mar-1860
John, bap. 20-Apr-1862
Michael, bap. 29-Sep-1867
Margaret, bap. 4-Feb-1870
Ellen, bap. 12-Jul-1875

Either Margaret is "Mary" or there is a missing Mary or "Maria", as a "Maria", a 31 year old daughter, shows up on the 1901 census record for Michael Collins and Ellen Driscoll.

Dia diabh!

I am researching my mother's family from Skibbereen. I got started on this wild goose chase after getting a mtDNA test. Apparently it's a rather uncommon result for western Europe.

Grandmom's side is proving to be very difficult, almost impossible. Her mother's name was Ellen Hurley, whose father was John Hurley. Grandmom had a cousin named Ann Sullivan, whom my aunt believes was from "the Hurley side." Ann was born 1922 or 1923, died in 2007, so I plan to pursue that lead. Grandmom's dad was Denis Collins of Colomane East. His parents, to the best of my knowledge, were Daniel Collins and Mary Mahoney. I have a copy of the entry in the birth index for a younger brother (and Grandmom's maternal uncle) Daniel. From cruising genealogy boards I have reason to believe the youngest brother James came to the US and his descendants are in Newport, RI. I don't have much more information than this abut Grandmom's ancestry. One of my goals is to investigate my matrilineal line because of the mtDNA.

I am starting to run into difficulties on Granddad's side. His mother was Margaret McCarthy, and I was told she had "many sisters", with one called Ellen. This was the Ellen McCarthy who married Patrick Maher in 1903. But I am at a loss for finding the names of other sisters. I think Ellen and Margaret's father was Cornelius, and the mother's name was Mary. Mary is in Margaret McCarthy Collins' household in the 1901 census. There are other McCarthys in the general area (Lissane, Tooreen) with the same names, and it looks like one big jumble. Granddad's paternal grandmother was a Driscoll.

I keep lots of documents here, if anybody wants to take a look:
http://www.sjbar.com/irishGenealogy/

Also, my Granddad John Collins, who served in the 4th battalion of the 3rd Cork Brigade, was perhaps a third cousin of General Michael Collins. Nobody in my family knows if the blood relationship is through Collins or through McCarthy. So one of my goals is to try to establish that paper trail.
