I am finding my Cottrell's primarily in Mecklenburg County, VA; Sampson County, NC; and Granville County, NC. In which locations do you find your Cottrell's?

What part of Virginia? When did they move?
Is John your brick wall?
I have Cottrell's in my husband's family.

Hello,

I am new to Genealogy Wise and this group. I am researching the Cottrell family in Georgia. My grandmother was a Cottrell and was one of about 14 or so children. I never met my grandmother and was not told much about her. I know the names of her parents and siblings (most, if not all, of whom have passed away). I know her grandparents' names, but that is about all. I cannot get past my great-grandparents - William Warden Cottrell and Mary Ellen Poole (later Norwood). He may have been born in South Carolina, and she may have been born in Georgia, though I am not sure about either.
Hi Mrs. Jones and welcome to Genealogywise and the Cottrell surname group. We're a small group so far but hopefully as more folks find their way to Genealogywise our group will start to grow and help us all make connections. I suggest you start a new discussion in the cottrell surname group with details about what you know of your family - include names and birth years (except for the living), and locations where you have them. If you don't know exact dates then estimates may still help other researchers connect with you. If you're not sure where someone was born then any knowledge of where they lived can be helpful. Do you have a tree uploaded anywhere (like ancestry)?
Hi Lisa, My great grandmother on my father's/father's side was Annie Cottrell/Cattrell Spencer m. James Andrew Spencer.I have her in the home with James Andrew and my grandfather when he was young. I believe she died around 1909. There are some Cottrell/Cattrell folks in Louisburg,Franklin County, NC. I may have placed her mother and possibly her father or perhaps even a brother and sister in law(people had some really big families back then). I can't find any records to trace her in a home as a child to confirm this. I can't find any record of her death or burial.

My Cotterells, Thomas & Sarah, leading to daughter Caroline b.1834, d.1901 (who married a Thomas Tooze in 1853) are based in Tiverton, Devon and Wellington, Somerset, SW area of England, UK.

Am I on the right website because a lot of the stuff I'm reading is USA-based??

Thanks,

Shaun Tooze (stooze@gmail.com)
