Barbara-
As you know I am also working on this line of Coles and Beasleys. I just checked my genealogy email folder and realized I dropped the ball on finishing going through the spreadsheet. I'll get that on my 'todo' list for the near future.

I am finding I need an entirely separate task plan for my genealogy research; something I've tried to avoid starting but if this is any lesson to me, it is obvious I need to start now. It almost seems as if there are as many 'todos' for my research as there are for everything else in my life.

Am researching the Cole/Coles family of Long Island, specifically the descendants of Joseph Coles (grandson of Daniel Cole/Coles and Maher Gorton through their son Joseph) of Musketa Cove (now Glen Cove). If connected to this family please contact me and we can exchange info!

Thanks for your web page Kathy. We may have corresponded years ago, perhaps when I lived in Iowa. My connection is through Joseph and Freelove Mason Cole's daughter Lydia who married John Robinson. They are an interesting family to research!

Ah, nice to see a group formed for Cole/Coles. My grandfather was a professional genealogist and as far as I know I am the only one of his descendants that showed any interest in genealogy. His name was Herbert Bennett Coles and he passed on to me much information about the Cole/Coles families after spending his lifetime researching them. He could never nail down that one missing link and I have been attempting the same for years. I know he was a John Cole who came to America about 1736 and settled in Kennebunport, Maine. Unfortuantely, all the historic and vital statatics of that town and surrounding ones were destroyed in a fire back in the 1800's.

I can only trace that line back to his great grandfather a Seth Cole of Boston, MA born in 1770. This John Cole probably would have been Seth's grandfather. I'm always hoping something will turn up after all these years that might give me a clue about this John but he still remains unsolved. Seth married Fanny Munroe and, contrary to published information, they did have children and Elbridge Gerry Coles was my grandfather's grandfather. Elbridge married (2nd wife) a Lydia Weeks of Exeter, NH. The "s" was added to the name Cole by that generation of children. I have much more information on the subject but I will leave it at that for now. I'm hoping that some day, somehow I will be able to find my elusive "John" from England.

You can check out my Home Page for pictures of the Coles family and our family crest that was designed by my grandfather, Herbert who was quite knowledge on the subject. He was granted a Coat of Arms around 1920. I still have some of his original stationery with the crest. Interesting stuff, I must say.

Ruby Coleman:

I can help you with the Swansea Coles. Joseph and Freelove Mason Cole.
Go to my website www.nkclifton.com and click on Clifton's Genealogy and then on the Cole name on the right hand side.

If you need any more information or that is not the right line for you get in touch with me at chatykat@infionline.net and I can help you. I have several books about the Cole's when they were there before they went to Washington Co.VA,
