Response to Mary Anderson -
I have been looking for the "actual" parents of George Frederick Clarke, born May 4, 1886 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. His birth certificate lists his mother as Mary Ann Clarke, but no father is listed. His marriage certificate lists his parents as Albert Edward Clarke and Mary Jeans (possibly the same person as Mary Ann Clarke, maybe not).

Your William Wood Clark has a daughter by the name of Mary Ann Clark, but their are several Mary Ann Clark(e)'s in England born about 1860. We've been trying to find the right Mary Ann Clarke to see if she is the same as Mary Jeans. Do you know when or why your ancestor's dropped the "e" off Clarke?

My great great grandfather was William Wood Clark, son of John Clarke and Mary Wood Clarke, was born 23 Sept 1834 in Walcotte, Leicestershire, England. His wife was Eliza Limb Clark. They came to America after joining the LDS church and after living for a few years in Utah, they settled in Carey, Idaho. His son, Joseph Charles Clark, married Alice Clark, daughter of Charles Clark and Elizabeth Ann Campion Clark. Joseph and Alice are my great grandparents. Anyone related to any of these people?

My husband's great-great grandfather, William Clark, a shoemaker, came from West Riding, Yorkshire, England to New York City in May 1832. He was married to Mary Hodson and their child Elias (born 18 Oct 1829 Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire, Eng.) came with them. Mary delivered a baby enroute that died. They left another infant son, William Brown Clark, with William's Clark grandparents and he came to America with his uncle John Clark in 1844.
William's parents were George Clark (abt 1781 Grantley, West Riding, York. - aft 1851 Bishop Thornton, West Ridiing, Yorks.) and Mary Ann (abt 1776 Kirkby Malzeard, West Riding, Yorks. - aft 1851 Bishop Thornton, West Ridiing, Yorks.). William and Mary had a daughter, Mary Ann, who was born in NY in 1833. They moved to Cincinatti, Ohio for a time where William practiced his shoemaking trade. He bought land in Randolph County, Illinois in 1847 and died in that county in 1850.
I know he had a brother John who was listed in George and Mary Ann's home along with his wife, Jane, and their children. John came to America in July 1844 and settled, for a time, in Dearborn Co, IN. John bought land in Randolph Co, IL in neighboring Jackson Co, IL in 1852 and moved his family there.
Both brothers are buried in the Zion Cemetery in Jackson Co, IL.
I have no idea whether there were other children. These Clarks were Methodists and William and Mary's son, Elias, was baptized at the Wesley Methodist Church at Pateley Bridge according to the IGI Pateley Bridge Wesleyan Methodist records. The IGI doesn't list, though the marriage for William and Mary or John and Jane.
The 1841 census listing for George and Mary Ann is in Brimham, Kirkby Malzeard Civil Parish where George is listed as a farmer. George and Mary are living alone in Bishop Thornton in 1851 where George is listed as a Boardwainer.

What I don't know - Did George and Mary Ann have other children? Did they come to America?? What's Mary Ann's maiden name? What's Jane's maiden name? What records were kept in the Methodist church during this time period 1800-1850 or 1860? When and where did William and Mary marry? When and where did his parents marry? I'm sure there are other questions but these are the questions I have at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
