From the Quebec-Research mailing list -

Hi there,

Anyone using the Library & Archives Canada (LAC) website for their
research knows how precious a resource it is. What you may not know,
however, is that massive budget cutbacks and a recent change in
management policy are threatening the preservation of this institution.

The Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) has just launched
an awareness campaing about what is really going on at LAC and the very
serious implication this will have on the future of the preservation of
Canada's cultural heritage.

Cheers,

Mona

Hello:

I am searching for information regarding the parents of my second great grandfather, Captain Hiram Williams.  Hiram was born in Port Dover, Ontario in 1822 and died in Halton, Ontario March 12, 1891.  Hiram was married to Mary Anne Travis (1831-1888) but I do not know the date.

We suspect the Williams family were originally from Pennsylvania, but have nothing to back it up.

Hi, just joined the group.  I am researching the name Daskaluk and Grottolo and other names associated with this family.  I am also researching the name Leask, Carthew, Peterson,Secord,Ingersoll, Land and Chisholm  (all regarding my husband's family).

I do have quite a bit of information regarding my husband's family but my own family is much of a brick wall of enormous size.

I am looking for information on the parents of  Louisa Sworth and her brother Charles. They were born, according to their marriage records, in Elizabethtown (Brockville area, Ontario) Louisa married William Thompson in 1879 in Elizabethtown. Charles married Lucy Lavis in 1881. Louisa listed her parents as John and Meria while Charles listed them as William and Meria.

The first census I fnd Charles and Louisa in is 1881 and each subsequent one afterwards. I have not been able to find them or their parents prior to this. The census information is also conflicting as to their origin, it changes each census.

I have found a family in 1851/61 with the Swart name that may fit but need some help to confirm this. These people originated from the US and some of the records I have reviewed indicated that Meria and her husband were born in Ontario. Any ideas would be appreciated. They were of Methodist faith, but to date I have not been able to find any birth records.

Are there descendants of, or others interested in; 1730's Canadian marines Capt. Antoine de Tonty (di Tonti) and aide Maj. Charles Pierre de Liette (di Lietti) killed in combat against Chickasaws, First Battle of Ackia, Tupelo, Mississippi Military District? I descend their kinsman from Mobile, Alabama, marine aide Maj. Pierre Gabriel de Juzan (his mother was Mdm. Michelle de Liette de Juzan "of the King's cabins", Versailles, France) who was killed at the First Battle of Ackia. He wed the daughter of Maj. Francoise Trudeau from Canada,  who 1702 built old up-river Mobiles's first fort and 1704 wed Canadian Etienne Burel's "Pelican Girl" daughter, who's mother by her earlier first marriage, was a Canadian "King's Daughter".

Anyone out there doing research on the Cormans ? I need to find a date of death for Nellie Beatrice Corman Patterson. She was my great grandmother. The last record I have is a photo of her dated 1947 from Longbranch in Toronto. She was with her son John who died in 1949. Nellie had a brother named Andrew who was a WW1 veteran and I'd like to find his date of death. Nellie was a descendant of Isaac Corman of Stoney Creek fame.

I am researching Hugh Patterson in Pehlam. He was born in Scotland in 1825 and came to Canada by the 1840's. His wife was Margaret McCullum, born in 1836. I have a fair amount of information on Hugh's descendants. Need to find the names of Hugh's parents and where he was buried. I think he died in 1897.
