I'm researching the Atells (Stephen, Mary and Lucy) in Saskatchewan. They were dairy farmers in the late 19th century. Lucy was born around 1901 in Makado or Mikado. Her father died by 1921.

Hi everyone,

I need help finding my birth family. I met my birth mother, but would also like to go beyond that and find my birth grandmother's family. My grandmother could still be alive as she would be 80 this year. I have no surname to work with. However, this is what I do have....

She was born in Saskatchewan in 1931..

Was of French Canadian Descent, also possibly Metis (Mic Mac) 5’2, 134lbs, medium complexion.

Had brown hair, brown eyes and attractive teeth. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

She enjoyed hockey, baseball, reading, knitting and embroidery, and worked as a waitress and later on in domestic service.

(I don't know if they met in Saskatchewan or in Sarnia, Ontario)*She probably never spoke of this to other family members...

In 1950 she met a man(birth Grandfather was born in 1928) with Green eyes, Blonde hair and fair skin, 5’11, 160lbs,

He did not want to marry my pregnant grandmother.(that’s what the paper says!)

He was described as Canadian and Protestant. He worked in construction.Interest’s baseball and woodcraft.

My grandmother then gave up the baby in Sarnia, Ontario in 1951. Born Aug 3.

I've been tested at 23andme. I'm of the Haplogroup A2f1a. I have a bit of Native in me as well.

If anyone thinks they can help me, or thinks this story sounds familiar, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you

The Canadian Parent family also had an old Mobile, Alabama, branch.  I descend "Don Pedro", Jean Pierre Gabriel Francois de Juzan, His Spanish Majesty's Indian Commissioner to Alabama, and DAR ally "Patriot", as he ran Spanish service agents amongst the Indians against British agents amongst the Indians in the American Revolution. His father was French Marine aide Maj. Pierre Gabriel de Juzan, kin of French-Italian Canadians, aide Maj. Charles Pierre de Liette, Capt. Antoine de Tonty, Henri de Tonty (founder of Mobile) and Baron Alphonse de Tonty. Gen. Luke Finley, Sr., and I believe we descend Don Pedro's wife Marie Henriette Rochon, daughter of Charles Rochon, Sr., of Canada. However other kin and good researchers believe we descend wife Catherine Marie Parent, daughter of Francois and Marguerite Catherine Binet Parent of Canada.  Francois the son of Jacques and Genevieve Louis Chevalier. Jacques the son of Pierre and Jeanne Parent, Sr.  He the son of Andre and Marie Coudrey Parent. Does this "ring any bells" with you? The head of the French FBI is, or was, a Parent.

You might want to try a search on the Canadian Archives site. (Available online). Just search for his name.

Richard Belchamber deserted his ship and was tried in St.Johns,Newfoundland in May 1815.He was deported back to the UK,then transported to Australia in 1816.Would there be any paperwork available in Canada about the trial.

Thanks guys.

Mary Lou, I did find the 1861-62 Montreal directory entry for Elias, but that was the only one. I had been inclined to believe the family had moved on, until your mention of another 5 years worth of entries. I would appreciate the other entries greatly, thanks.

Beverley, yes that is the family. I've since found an obituary for the eldest son Elias William, and it did mention his two brothers George and Thomas having lived in Boston. I traced them to Brookline and another area on the other side of the city.

Thank you both!
