I don't know anything about Catherine other than what I posted here. I already thought about her being married before marrying my ggrandfather. There just aren't any marriage records that I can find that would be her.

Her only child (at least ones that lived) was my grandfather, George.
I DO keep looking but it really makes me crazy.
I looked at some noted I made about it over 10 years ago and it shows I have gotten nowhere in all this time. I only found Henry a couple weeks ago and actually I did not do the finding. In desperation I wrote a post on a Stiles page. Someone on that page had a hunch and it paid off. So, I thought I'd try again but for Catherine. Obviously, whatever I am trying to do to find her is not working.

Hi Eileen,

The one thing that I would say in regard to your dilemma with dates of your great grandmother's birth is that I have found census data to be VERY inconsistent...names spelled wrong, dates misstated, etc.  I would trust what your grandfather's information over the census any day.  But keep looking, because just when you think you'll never find the right corroboration...you do! :-)  As Carmen says...and congratulations to you Carmen for your breakthrough!  It makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it? :-)

I have finally broken down a brick wall, My 2x g grandfather had stated his mother was Sarah Taylor. Many searches failed to find this, including purchasing one certificate for a marriage between Sarah Taylor and Ben Woodhead. The details on this certificate had too many inconsistencies to have been our Ben Woodhead. I had his second marriage which married up with my details so Alfred's mother remained a mystery. Thanks to Family search, having a little more detail now, I found the marriage of a Ben Woodhead to Isabella Jenkinson, his father John. The only problem was the Isabella appeared to die before Alfred was born. I sent for the certificate and all was exactly the same as that of the second marriage. the result my 2x g grandfather was a year older!!! Alfred was not registered it seems hence the more difficulty in finding all of this. BUT never give up you never know what is out there.

Hi Eileen

Interesting, are you aware of any sisters or brothers for Catherine? Is it possible that she was married before she married Henry?

Can you advise on her childrens names please?

thanks

Sharon

Have you ever tried to search for someone in so many different combinations of spellings and dates, and for so many years, that you feel like your head is going to explode?

If anyone would be interested in helping, I'd be forever grateful.

I am trying to find my great grandmother, Catherine E. Conway. I have her birth year from several sources and they run from 1881-1884. On her death cert, my grandfather stated her birthday was June 7, 1881 in Camden, NJ but on census records, the year of her birth is anywhere from 1882-1884. They all say she was born in New Jersey and so were her parents. However, apparently my grandfather knew nothing of her parents because he stated they were unknown.

She was married about 1907 to Henry (Harry) R. Stiles who was born in 1870 in New Jersey. He also went by the name Henry Reed but I think he was using Stiles by the time they married. (he was raised by Reeds and didn't know he was a Stiles until the 1890s) He was listed as Reed on the 1900 census.

Please help! I've searched Ancestry and Family Search in SOOO many ways and for so many years and I don't know what else to do. I can't find evidence of their marriage or anything else about her. Thanks.

I am looking for information on Anna Hurley.. she is my furthest maternal grandmother, I have done some DNA research and need to coorelate the paper trail with what the science tells me. She wouldve been born in the late 1700s in either Tennessee or N Carolina. IM on Ancestery.com and family tree as well and they can provide me with nothing. If anyone can help or provide any clues I would be in your deepest gratitude. If anyone needs help I have access to ancestry.com feel free to ask. THanks.,Jen Mcelhinney
