I have been trying to find info on a Benjamin Franklin DeMeritt, who was listed in the Effingham, New Hampshire 1860 census living with a Eunice Demeritt (possibly a sister/sister-in-law - not a spouse). He was born about 1812, documented married in Lowell, Massachusetts, May 31, 1837 to Sarah Ann Bickford, widowed approximately 1840. His son, Charles Davis DeMeritt's birthplace (08/06/1838) is listed on his marriage documents as Effingham, as is his marriage in Effingham (12/07/1859). I have no knowledge of Benjamin Franklin DeMeritt's parents, church affiliation/membership, or date of death/burial. It is presumed that nearly all DeMeritts come from Eli DeMeritt, immigrant from the Isle of Jersey in the 1600s. Tracing from that direction gives nothing to tie the two ends together. My father Franklin DeMeritt Jr. began this research in the 1950s, until he died in the 60s and I took it up about 15 years ago. I would be interested in any thoughts on how I might find this man's history. I am stumped.

I have confirmation of marriage to Sarah Anne Bickford and Charles' father is named Benjamin Franklin DeMeritt so as much as I would like a solution to this man I am afraid this doesn't fit.
