Is there a way to directly reply to another person's comment?

Thank you Calvin. Looks like there is a wealth of information on Bobbitts here. I look forward to reading all of it!

I have a physical copy -- with lots of penciled-in notes in the margins kindly intentionally left wide for that purpose.

Laura, did you have a physical hardcopy of The Bobbitt Book to look at? Or, did you access it online?

Well, the Bobbitt book gave me a good start, Joseph is on page 448, but there are some errors. For instance he did not die away from home; he was shot on Christmas Eve 1893 while defending his daughters, carried home, and died or his wounds the next day, as noted in the Grayson County Death records. This line, once they settled in Grayson, tended to stay in the area.

Welcome to the discussion Laura. Looks like you've got your kids line filled out pretty good!

My kids' Bobbitt ancestors settled in Grayson County, VA shortly after the Revolution. Their immigrant ancestor was William Bobbitt, thought to be from Wales, actually England, who arrived in the Virginia Colony before Oct 1673. The descent goes like this:
William 1649-1703 (wife not certain - maybe Sturdivant, maybe Wingate)
William Jr 1675-1738 (md Mary Green)
James 1797-1761 (md Elizabeth Dalton)
Capt. William 1744-1817 (md Nancy McKenzie)
John 1783-1819 (md Nancy Nucholls)
Charles 1809-1886 (md Sarah DeFries)
Joseph 1844-1893 (md Edith Nichols)
Bettie Bobbitt, 1866-1903 unmarried
James Edgar Bobbitt, 1890-1950
Wm Dewey Bobbitt 1933 - 2002

I had the fortunate experience of finding my Bobbitt relatives in Orofino, ID a few months after Ellsworth (my grandfather) died in 2004. He was pretty estranged from his family and never talked about them. When he died I was able to find information about his parents, thanks to my mom and aunt finding his birth certificate and his parents names. This information led me to the Orofino, ID relatives who had been searching for Ellsworth for several years. They were having a family reunion within a week in Idaho, but I wasn't able to attend.
