Many Irish Blakes descend from those who came in to Ireland with Strongbow (Richard de Clare II) to conquer the Celts.  They were part of the Tribes of Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribes_of_Galway), and are still notable in Ireland today.  My ancestors descend from this family through Richard Caddell (http://www.galway-ireland.ie/blake.htm).  My cousin has written a book on our line and documented it very well.

My Blake family apparently came from Co Clare Ireland,  immigrated to Canada, and then established permanent residence in Detroit.

I am a descendant from the Blake family that immigrated into Canada. My grandfather came from there to Pennsylvania and then to Ohio. John Blake married to Charolette Taylor is my earliest ancestor. My father was also John Blake named after him as was the case in each generation.

Hi, I'm new to this, not to genealogy, but to setting up a group and such. Anyway, I thought a Blake group might be good to have, for Blakes all over the world. I am a Blake by marriage, and our these Blakes apparently came over from England, and were 'granted' lands in Galway by the king or whatever!
Please do join the fun, and tell us of your Blakes, anyone.
